    SR3090 Finisher top bin jams

    Hey all,

Ive been fighting a new SR3090 finisher on a MPC4502 machine. For some reason it jams in the Top Tray but not the shift tray. If i run copy/prints to the top tray of the finisher after 10 or 30 pages it just jams, the odd thing is the paper jams and it takes a few seconds for the machine to relize its jammed, even weirder is the motor on the finisher keeps running but it bogs down and turns real slow like something is holding the transport rollers, i swapped the rear motors for the top tray and shift tray around since they were the same motor got the same result, so I thought maybe the one way in the bridge was slipping so i changed that cause they stop just as the exit the bridge and hit the entrance of the finisher, same result with that to, the whole motor bogging down and trying to run even after the machine is saying its jammed and stops everything else kind of seems like a firmware issue or something.

But if I run everything to the shift tray instead it runs just fine which doesnt make sense because the entrance sensor, bridge, and transport roller system all has to run to drive to the shift tray so you would think it would jam there but it doesnt. I also notice when running the shift tray the motor is like full on, but to the top bin there is a different timing cause you can watch the belt gears and you can see after each sheet there is a very slight pause but it keeps that rythem until it jams and it usually does it right at the pause.

Anyone out there have info on the SR3090 I only have 4 of the 4502 models in my area 3 have a finisher and this is the first one ive had an issue with. I also did a firmware update but there isnt a finisher update only machine firmware since release.

No ones got any ideas huh, ya me either. I can't tell if its the bridge unit or the finisher thats causing it or why the Jam indication doesnt show immediatly when 3 or 4 sheets ball up at the finisher entrance it just keeps trying to run at the finisher. I am thinking its the board still researching.

Hey Counsel, I'd say update the firmware for the engine and see if it helps any since the update for the finisher isn't out yet. Sounds like a timing malfunction though. I had one go coocoo on me after it was relocated, had to unplug and reinsert all the harnesses on the I/O board as one of them came loose. Try that and see if it helps any.

The problem is it doesnt have one thats whats really got me, when i print out the smcs it shows me total jam count over 100+ but when looking at the specific codes all of them are 0s, what ever code it is supposed to be is not in the smc report but is logged in the total counter. Other then a lag jam 1 or 2 of them listed under the bridge unit the code doesnt exist.

I did update firmware before posting this as it seemed like a timing issue to me. I have not been able to get back there yet to try the connections on the i/o. I have them output to the shift tray right now and it works just fine.

Sounds a bit similar to an issue we were facing with the SR790 and the MP-MPCXX00 models. I had two machines just stopping paper as it began to exit the finisher. Ended up swapping the bridge units (both out of troubled machines) and the issue hasn't returned. Can't explain why it fixed it but it did. Is it possible for you to bring a different bridge unit to the machine with the issue?

Its a good thought, it crossed my mind that the bridge might be the issue because of the pause its either not in sync with the finisher or something. I will have to try and find one from the shop. ill report back if i get it figured out

Re: SR3090 Finisher top bin jams

Well i brought another bridge unit, a control board for the finisher, drive motors for the finisher and an entrance sensor for the finisher and it still jams in the top tray, i stopped a jam as soon as i heard it and i had 4 sheets of paper in the bridge 2 were trying to exit and two were coming into the bridge, however they were not double fed because the image on all 4 sheets was normal so they all went through the transfer and fuser 1 at a time but gobbled up in the bridge, it seemed like the first one to exit didnt and within second the remaining sheets came crashing into the bridge, i got a few j001 jams (power ons) and a j062 and then the no code one within about 50 sheets.

The only other thing i am thinking is a door switch somewhere but at the same time i usually get sporadic jams or sc codes when door switches fail, unless its the finisher switch, I would say bridge switches because of the power on jams but i used two different bridge units and they all did the same thing. Im really at a loss.
