    1357ex Pro Faint prints

Hoping someone can help. We have 2 1357ex pros and have been having recurring problems with the print becoming faint. Our service provider always fixes the problem but it never lasts long. Changing the developer seems to help, but again, doesn't last long. Based on other posts I've read we appear to be set at 750 for toner supply and 10 for patterns. Both machines have the same issue periodically. we mainly run A3 (or SRA3) and a mixture of plain & pre-printed stocks (most under 120gsm). Does anyone have suggestions for what could be causing these problems?

    Thanks

    Michael

Have they tried checking / unblocking the supply pipe at the rear, behind the dev unit. This can get blocked and cause starvation issues. The VT, Vref readings need to be checked, to enable better diagnosis. It could be the pump on top of the hopper, or even the TD sensor. More information required to be able to give a better solution. Does the quality improve once the job is stopped and re-started, or does it remain faint on a re-start?

Sometimes you have to suck out all the toner from the supply system on the back on the machine (not the hopper though), always replace the supply tubes at service, and reload the toner through set up. I learned the hard way with this beast, no short cuts!
I used to suffer with loss of quality after service until I started doing it the right way.

I had one with a toner hopper drive motor failure last week. The motor that drives the paddle that drops the toner into the developer itself. We had previously replaced all parts (toner bank, hoses, hopper, developer, dev unit, etc) but it would intermittently go light. Found the motor mentioned would occasionally not turn on and eventually stopped altogether. Replaced motor, did force toner supply and problem gone.

            Went through the experience.
            Tough but enriching.

If u still experience the same problems after this, try checking the charge. For mine, did some adjustments for charge, volt, etc & it got better....

Check your VSP reading in SP 3-103-003. it should be 0.5v +/- 0.2v. over the reading will indicate that the developer is starved of toner. 5.00v could indicate a U/S TD sensor.
Ensure toner is getting to the toner hopper on top of the developer. It should be quite full at all times. if it is not, it could well be as suggested, a toner supply pipe or toner attraction pump problem. If it is full, I would suggest replacing the toner hopper section. to determine if this is working correctly, you can remove the toner hopper from the developer unit and turn the lower toner supply spigot to see if it will shoot jets of toner into the developer unit.
Also, if you are experiencing SC49* errors, it would also be worth while looking at the toner bank as a clutch that drives the toner supply coil is prone to failure.

              I hope that helps.

My experience on this particular machine was that the toner hopper on the dev unit was full. I could take it off and turn the lower auger and it would shoot toner out just fine. I could turn on the motor that drives it and it would never come on. It was a strange occurrence. Also once I got the motor off in my hand, turning it manually the action was what I would describe as "crunchy" and the new one was much smoother...
