Mpc 5000 moaning and groaning haha!!

I have an mpc 5000 that makes an groaning noise on a long run when printing on thick 3. Mainly when print jobs are slowed down because of thick 3. It starts of quietly and gradually becomes louder.
Seems like its coming from the back of the machine near the fuser unit. It can be very misleading.

Sound cannot be produced in output check.
Drum units have been changed by other engineers.

    Any ideas??

Mostly likely your fusing drive section then.

There is a bearing on the drive unit that can collapse over time which makes noise

If you have access to high temperature grease, lube the ends of the hot roller where they contact the inner races of the bearings, and use enough grease that you can see the grease on both sides of the bearings when you re-install them. I think there was even a tech bulletin about this on the older 35/45 CPM machines, which used similar hot rollers and bearings.
The increased torque required when paper passes between the hot and pressure roller can cause the roller to turn inside the inner race of the bearing, which causes all sorts of noises. As the roller ages, the wear on the ends of the roller will cause the sounds to occur even when there isn't any paper, even though the hot roller coating is still in good shape. Using a good quality lube that can withstand the heat from the hot roller will solve this.
DO NOT, IN ANY CASE, USE LOW TEMPERATURE GREASE! I did that once by mistake, and the resulting fumes drove everyone out of that office. D'oh!
Oh, also make sure the pressure roller cleaning roller is in good shape.

Today I replaced the fuser unit and greased all the bearings in the fuser unit and still made the same noise.

When you say the sound cannot be reproduced in output mode, is the machine up to the same temperature as on a long run and are you running the bridge, exit and duplex unit motors at the same time? The exit unit bearings do sieze after a while too.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

            Hit it.

Take out the bridge unit and see if the 2 guide pieces are in place where the paper exits before it hits the bridge unit. I had one where they were mounted wrong and were rubbing on the exit rollers, causing a moan/groan only at low idle speeds. If not that, I would take a closer look at the exit unit. It's pretty common for the small rollers with the spring metal holders to get build up and make noise.

                I agree....

Though I encountered last week a slightly different senario.

Loud groaning & clipping sound when using Thick 2 & 3.

A tech specialist went down & found the motor wore off...

U may want to check on that as well...

Clean or replace the feed and sep rollers.
Hopefully you are using the bypass one sheet @ a time.
A stack of anything that requires thick 3 should only be feed from bypass.
A stack of thick paper in any drawer is going to groan.
It is paper vibration going through sep rollers and testing the torque limiter.

As long as it is feeding thick 3 without jamming or poor CQ, then ignore it.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

Double check the feed of the paper, i think these feed units had an updated transport for noise. With thick paper less then 256 gsm i hope all sorts of noise from the paper type can occur, maybe run the paper in a different feed area and see if its still noisy could just be where the paper bends causing noise.

I agree with above unless they really cant put up with noise on a few thick runs dont fix what isnt broke.
