MP 3350SP not able to to see the machine on the network.

    Hi There:

I have a MP3350SP that has a problem hooking up to customer's network. They cannot ping it therefore no printing. They bought the machine 2 years ago and now just decided to hook it up for printing. I can hook my laptop to it using a crosover cable and I can ping and print to my hearts content. Hook the machine back up to their network and nothing. We've moved a different Ricoh copier tothe same location and it prints fine. Any suggestions would be great. Maybe the NIC card itself? If possible please provide part numbers thanks very much.

If you can crossover and print to it, then the NIC is not at fault. Re-check your settings, put it on DHCP and print to the hostname. If that doesn't work, check that the hostname is unique (I would recommend using the serial number) and that the network isn't filtering MAC addresses.

I tried to put it on DHCP. Thing is the network doesn't see the machine. The connection is fine because we've put another machine there and it prints fine.

Does the machine pick up an address or does it give you 169.x.x.x? Set it to DHCP then print out the NIC config page to see the current IP.

When set to DHCP is doesn't grab anything........169. address......

If the machine's network address has been reallocated by DHCP for another device on the network, the other device will take up all the network traffic bound for that machine. Or, if that address is no longer in the address allocation table, you'll get a big nada from their network, but the crossover cable will work perfectly.
I am mainly a fan of the static IP address for setting up network printing, as that is way easier for lazy slackers like me. Still, I've seen DHCP reassign the static IP address of a machine to another device on the network (probably because the MFP was switched off and a new user or device connected to the network then), so it is a good idea to have an open mind for this kind of thing.

Stoopid question... Any possibility that the customer's network is Gigabit only?

The Gigabit card is an option for this machine, so without it only 10 and 100Mb are supported.

It would be possible that the working machine you tested with had the Gigabit option, or even had it natively on a new enough model.

I don't think it is. They do have other Ricoh machines on the same network and they work fine. I'll probably just try to replace the card even though it does print fine through the cross-over. I've been working closely with the IT guy there and I feel I need to do something. If anyone know the part number let me know. I have D3625170........which is called the hdd pcb. Is this it? or is it the wrong number. Thanks.

I doubt a board is going to help you here. I'd get a config page out of one of the Ricoh's that work, take that machine off the network and set the troubled machine to the working machines IP address.

You might try locking the speed on the network card through the user tools instead of having it on auto. I had a machine that would stay on the network for a few moments and drop off and you could not see it after that. (Reboot the machine, would print like one document and then disappear again). This was an older network and the customer had been adding stuff to it. Their IT guy figured out if they had some device on it, the machine was not happy about it, even tho they never had close to the same IP address.

Can you post a configuration page from this machine please?

Just an update.......they have another identical machine on a different floor. I took the network board out of the working machine and put it into the one not working. And it grabs an ip!!!!!. I had a similar problem with a canon machine before. I guess hooking a laptop using a crossover cable doesn't rule out the NIC card. I have the board on order. Thanks for everyone's help.

I'd go into Sp5801 and re-initialize the 'Printer' & 'NCS'. NCS is basically the NIC card, but I always throw in the Printer when I have print issues.

Hey thanks for the info. I will try this before I put in the board.
