    MP C4502 SC998 Code

    Same song second verse

SC 998 is and application error.

We have 2 of these machines at same customers office.
First one came up with SC 998. Ended up swapping controller boards and the one machine which originally had the SC998 started running fine.
Before I ordered a $1K controller board though I'd check out if it was just the SD card. Machine was running fine turned it off swapped SD Cards.
Would not come up do there you go bad SD card at least...
Now here is the problem put the good SD card back in machine and now it won't come up. Just says wait then Process error message the restart
    then SC998.

Other than Firmware which I will try tomorrow morning anybody got anything? I'm running out of hair...

What application is in the SD card you're testing? I've been led to believe that Java SD cards don't react well to being removed and swapped, but I might be wrong.

I think the only way to use a Java card on another machine is to completely uninstall it from the original machine to avoid smoking the program. You can't just remove and swap.

Note to self..... Never ever swap Java cards ....

After a long trouble shooting period (Made longer by the fact that only the machine can turn itself off.....and are Chinese minutes the same as American minutes?).

Second Machine Swapping the Java card corrupted the hard drive. So all I had to do was reformat the HD. Worked like a charm. Running with good Java card.

First machine reformatted the HD fired it up without the Java card (Customer is not running any Java apps)

Now I can't say for sure that the one Java card corrupted the HD on the second machine to begin with or just switching Java card in and of itself did.

I do know that both machines are running and I now have an extra Java card....

          Thanks for the help guys....

I don't think that the Java card would cause hard disk problems.
The way I understand it is this: thanks to a copyright issue, the Java card is linked permanently to the controller it is first mounted in, to the point that it will not work in any other machine's controller. If you take the Java card out for almost any reason the controller will no longer recognize that card, and only a new Java SD card will work after that.
Kind of why you'd have to app move from any other card onto the Java card.
