slow printing to a lanier ld232c and lanier 328c

could anyone let me know if they have encountered the following problem on printing to l232c and l328c

when printing a pdf or especially from a cad programme called all plan it takes about 20 minutes to print the job using both the rpcs and pcl drivers on both machines in the same customers office.

however if the same print job is printed to a hp5500 series printer with less memory and using a pclxl driver it takes less than a minute

it has been suggested to install postscript by nrg but the customer not willing to pay and is also asking why he should as his hp5500 using pclxl driver is working fine

    anyone any ideas

I have had a couple of slow print issues as well and post script fixed them. HP printers come standard with ps.

Here's a cheaper solution than PostScript, though that would be the best option.

Use the PCL 5c driver and print the documents in black and white at 300 dpi. It will breeze right through the device. Also make sure they have the latest and greatest version of Acrobat Reader, or all patches for the full version of the programme.

As for the CAD application, I'm not familiar with it, but using the same settings as above should work.

Overall I've found the PCL 6 driver for both of these boxes to have some VERY strange issues. Unless a customer really argues over it I always install PCL 5 or RPCS.

Ran into the same problem with CAD on a Ricoh 1045.
I installed pcl5 and problem went away.
        HPs also use pcl5 language.
If customer wants sorting, stapling and duplexing, they should break down and get the PS. I always told sales scum to sell the ps at cost to save problems down the line.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

This problem also happens in color printing on a Mac network with Powerpoint.
