    MPC3300 scan to email problem

I have a client who I had set up scan to email and it worked fine until recently it is erroring out.

I went into administration mode and in setup for smtp changed the port number from 587 to 465 as it the connectin test would fail with 587 and 465 was an alternate port for 98.136.185.95 (which is ip address for yahoo's smtp.mail.yahoo.com server). with 465 the connection was successful. However, I go try to send a scan to email say norm@verizon.net or whatever. and then look at the scan log and it will say processing for a minute then changes to "waiting" and after another minute it errors. Or I cancel it knowing it will error.

I would think if the connectin was successful it would just work. I have tried with encryption on auto/on/off and none made a difference. Aunthenication is on and a valid usrename and password is stored. But it still won't send to any email address.

What else could I be missing here? Any ideas?

I have several clients set up with Yahoo mail, and about 4-5 weeks ago they all went down. Yahoo's smtp server IP address has been changed. I have no idea why they would do that. Ping it again and put in the new IP address, or even try smtp.mail.yahoo.com. I could never get the name to work before it changed, but now it does (on some machines). Leave the port at 587.

EDIT: Here's the thread where we discussed the issue: http://www.copytechnet.com/forums/ri...can-email.html

Yahoo's ip address for port 587 relay is now 98.138.105.21. For some reason I can never make the smpt server name work, I always have to use the ip address. Had this problem a few weeks back and had to go around to all my small clients who do not have an e-mail server and put in the new ip address.

Make sure the machine's DNS settings are set and correct. If the customer doesn't have their own DNS (or you are using their router/gateway as a DNS substitute) then try Google's open DNS: 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4.

Re: MPC3300 scan to email problem :: CONSISTENCY!!!

            CONSISTENCY IS THE "KEY" HERE!!!

I work at a copy tech business that just recently got online with a web presence. In the package was included e-mail/web mail for our business. In addition, I requested to the supporting tech service company that they include a "scanner account" in with our e-mail package. They were glad to assist. What this scanner account does is allow us to set up and test a MFP with a scan to e-mail account BEFORE it goes onsite! This saves a WHOLE lot of headache!--you know the headache that the customer doesn't know their SMTP info, etc. Anyway, long story short, the account we have is SMTP, Port 587, Non-SSL, Password Protected...AND, you HAVE TO KNOW the IP ADDRESS OF THE MAIL SERVER!!! If someone "tries" to "port scan" the SMTP server for this port, it will not respond!...the server is in a "Stealth Mode" so in order to use it, all three items have to be "in place".

NOTE::--if someone tries to do a ping with the mail server such as "ping mail.sampleserver.net" and get the network address translation to return an IP address, it will not!...this is what "Stealth Mode" does!....It does not respond!....you have to have the EXACT IP Address to "hook in" to the mail server! As an added note, this scanner e-mail account is for scanning and sending ONLY! If you're paying for it, ya might as well use it!

            Very Useful!

That is odd seeing It worked fine for months and I have at least six others working fine at this time (knock on wood).

Ok, I wondered if they might have changed their servers, that was my gut instinct. Sounds like a plan.
