[Misc] Key Counter for Ricoh MPC3502

Had a key counter on a Ricoh MPC2800 and want to put it on a MPC3502. Made setting in User Tools and hooked up key counter.........machine request key counter as it should but no response when the key counter is inserted. Has this circuit been disabled by the Japanese?

Thanks for your response. No, I have not. Documentation states nothing about installing it for a key counter. Have you installed a key counter on this series and did the optional counter interface resolve the issue?

      Thank you Again

Look at the connection to the copier. Ricoh key counter connections are 4 pins. Pins 1 & 2 are the enable circuit. There is a 5VDC signal on one and ground on the other. Shorting the 5VDC signal to ground drops it low and the copier comes ready. Measure across pins 1 & 2 with the counter removed (should be 5VDC). Measure again With the counter inserted (should be 0 V & ready to copy). If that's not the case something may be wrong with your key counter harness or the counter itself.

You may be able to turn on the keycounter through service mode.
Turn off key counter in admin-sys settings-user tools-key op tools.
Go to SP5113 and choose option 11.
Go back to key op tools and external charge unit management should be available.
        In there select controlled functions.

Ricoh started doing this a couple series back. I did a coin op on a Savin c9125 and ran into this.

Thank you for responding. Actually what I ended up doing is going into SP5113 and set it for Key Card mode. Then made a harness for CN215 on the IOB and used pins 2,11,12 and 13. Set external charge functions in User Tools and it works. Thank you again for assisting.

If you are using the standard key card connector (4 wires) it should be CN218 on the I/O board. If you've purchased the Type A interface board (20 pins) you would connect directly to that.

Set up instructions for most key card devices
Turn off key counter in admin-sys settings-user tools-key op tools.
Go to SP5113 and choose option 11. (if using interface board I think you'd use option 2)
Go back to key op tools and external charge unit management should be available.
                  In there select controlled functions.
You may be able to use the admin/system settings/user tools key op tools rather than the service mode method but if the key card is removed before a copy is done it may cause a jam.
