I have a Ricoh 1060 that won't load toner. I have tried several new toner bottles, but its like it doesn't detect it. I have tried forcing toner in and noticed that the bottle doesn't spin. Any info would be great, before I start replacing parts. thanks

Re: Toner not loading
Is the inner cap from the empty toner bottle still in the chuck? If you don't swing the toner bottle holder out the full forty five degrees, the inner cap won't come out with the empty bottle, which will prevent the new bottle from being installed correctly. The newer models that were based on that chassis had a warning sticker for that.
Something similar can happen if the green latch on the toner bottle holder is broken, too.
Also, that's a pretty old machine. You might check the wiring to the toner bottle holder to make sure that the in line plug is still connected properly, and maybe check the wiring with a meter to make sure it hasn't failed because of being flexed so many times.Last edited by Iowatech; 08-16-2013, 01:56 AM.Comment

Re: Toner not loading
if toner bottle motor is bad, and they do go bad on these older models u can try manual forced toner to test by filling the hopper manually, then force toner in copy sp mode -not fun but it might get u going if thats the only issue.jesus loves you! (everyone else thinks you're an assh*le)

Re: Toner not loading
Check both door switches.
There is one small microswitch that is @ the base of the vertical transport unit.
That switch applies 24v to the motors.
Short it with a small paperclip, then activate toner add motor through service mode.
It gets full of toner and paper dust and can't carry the current to drive the motors.
Just a thought. Why do they call it common sense?
If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?Comment

Re: Toner not loading
OK, I was able to get the toner bottle to spin, and forced toner in, but after trying to copy the papers were blank. Now it is saying to replace the toner again. I printed to it and i can see very light print, and toner is all over the copies. Any more ideas? I don't even know where to go from here.Comment

Re: Toner not loading
Are you sure you have the right toner? Because it almost sounds like you don't. The bottles for different machines can look almost identical, but are different enough that they won't work. Or the chemical composition of the toner is too different to work in that machine (example: the evolution of the 35/45 CPM machines). If you still have the old empty bottle, make sure the numbers on that label match up with the numbers on new toner bottle labels you are trying to use. Or, check the product support guide, I think the numbers are in there, too. If I remember correctly, I think the most important number is labeled "EDP" or something like that.Comment

Re: Toner not loading
I thought that it could be the developer too, I replaced that less than 10,000 copies ago. Surely that doesn't need to be replaced again. I can't remember how to charge the toner once its changed, so I can't remember if I did that. Could that be the issue? Thanks for all the input BTW.Comment

But with the toner bottle rotation problems I still think you should double check to make sure you have the right toner in the right toner bottle. It shouldn't take that long to compare the numbers, and if that doesn't work it shouldn't take too long to get the values that kannuki2 asked for and we can go from there.Comment

Re: Toner not loading
That's weird, when I've seen drum ground problems it always produces light or blank prints, because the drum charge can't be grounded by exposure to the laser beam, and therefor the drum can't attract toner from the developer. I guess I'm missing something here, if you have time can you explain how that could produce backgrounding?Comment

Re: Toner not loading
Are you getting any toner building up and dusting? It sounds like the bottle for some reason isn't fully engaging the hopper. But don't forget to check the shutter. When you remove the plastic cover from the hopper area, there should be a tab that engages the shutter. If that thing has swung all the way closed you'll never get toner into the machine. Make sure that shutter is open.Comment
