MPC 5000 - black text on colour pdf document is blurry?

    Hello

I have a problem with MPC5000 when I print color PDF document.
Only when I print colour PDF document, the black text is blurry (It also depends on the font). BW print is OK.
The problem is not present if I print from word, excel,....
I print same document on MPC3001, the result was the same.
I've tried print from Windows XP, Windows7 and with last PCL6 driver.
    Any idea?

    Thanks

You might try the PCL 5c driver, or the RPCS driver (which is only available for the C5000). If that doesn't solve it. You'll likely need to acquire and install the postscript option, and then install the Postscript driver.

PCL 5 sounds like a potential winner, though you may also want to make sure that Print as Image isn't checked in your PDF reader as well. Also, make sure you're using the latest version of your preferred Reader.

Acrobat contains Satan's print engine. WYSIWYG has no shout there! Go file/print, click the advanced button, then select "print as image". That should sort it.

A possible cause is the original fonts are not embedded into the PDF, and as the copier has a limited font range; it has to substitute the font with one it has.

Looks like we're contradicting each other. I've seen print as image cause the blurry text that's causing the issue thanks to a bad GDI render. Then again, with the beauty of Adobe products the same solution can cause and fix a problem!

Sorry fella. I've had my head caned in with an MP5500 all day and didn't read the posts correctly. Didn't mean to contradict you.

If you look closely at the blurry black text your find that it's not actually printed in black, it's printed in over lapped CMY otherwise called processed black.
If you stick you eye ball right up to page or use a microscope you should see the magenta bleeding from the edge of the text letters.
The reason for this is that the colour registration is just never normally that accurately aligned.

Printing as image normally works as does fitting the PS3 option and using the PS3 driver.
Also you can try printing the PDF from a different PDF reader, I use and recommend Foxit (Adobe Acrobat sucks).

If the list of fonts are present in properties of the PDF document, does that mean that they are embedded?

I've tried with PCL5 and RPCS, and "print as image" turned on and off, but nothing changed.
In the end I uninstall Acrobar Reader 11 and install old Acrobat Reader 6.0.1 and the print was OK.
I 've tried too with Acrobat Reader 7 and print was still blurry. I didn't tried yet with different reader.

Any idea why works great with Acrobar Reader 6 but not with version 7,... ,10, 11?

If it's an older file, it may have been created with compatibility for older versions of Acrobat which Reader 6 (which is HIGHLY insecure so it's not a great solution for the customer) may have hooks for. It may have also been created with an older version of Acrobat, which could give you the same result because of the font smoothing and other improvements made in newer versions.

If you have access to a full version of Acrobat, you may want to see what happens if you try re-creating the PDF:

Save the file as a Postscript file
Try to launch the Postscript file and the PDF distiller will rebuild it into a PDF.

Have had this same problem. One of two things might fix it. Update Adobe or install the RPCS driver. I have had to do both but the driver is the more common issue.

                          Hope this helps!
