With a code like SC865 the format will probably fail anyway. Remove the hard disk, plug it into a PC with a caddy then create an NTFS partition on the drive but DON'T format it or assign it a drive letter. Pop it back in the machine and if the drive is actually okay, it will format it itself. If you get any more SC's, the hard drive has had it and needs replacing.
