[Error Code] ricoh 1022 sc 355 and 390

sc 355 is id sensor defective and sc 390 is td sensor error

so i changed the pcu with a brand new one and few weeks later i had the same codes back in again.
when i looked at the c/q it was overtoning and backgrounding. and randomly it ask to replace the toner bottle even though there is toner in the bottle.
toner supply unit was also replaced. i changed the id sensor with the whole door from a working machine.

i checked the td sensor connnector on the machine and all pins looked in place.

this is the second time ive changed the pcu.

any ideas??

also all toner supply settings are on default

non original toner is being used. these guys have been using it for years

Replacing the PCU with a new one will take care of the SC 390 if the PCU is the source of the problem. If the problem is the machine side connector and harness, it will come back. Check the connector and the harness all the way back to the board. Clean the connector. Was the "New" PCU that put in actually brand new or was it one that had been in another machine briefly? If it had been in another machine, did you turn the PCU counter reset flag back down? Was it a genuine Ricoh PCU?

Normal machine operation following replacement of the PCU with a new one is as follows:

1. There is a switch that senses that the reset flag is down and initiates the "New PCU" function
2. Toner density sensor is initialized to the new developer in the PCU.
3. Rotation of the drum during TD initialization raises the reset flag.
4. The PCU counter is reset.

If the reset flag is already up from having been in another machine, the TD sensor does not get initialized. If the machine had been overtoning, it will continue to do so.

The SC 355 could be the result of overtoning or it could be a dirty or bad ID sensor. Usually a dirty ID sensor will cause light copies.

Pcu puck was brand new out of a sealed box and genuine. When I replaced the Pcu I checked the Pcu counter and it was back to 0.

After market toner is never of the same quality as the original one. It can work for years, and suddenly give problems. After market toner always gives problems in the long run.

"But we've been using it for years".
Heard it a thousand times. The fact that the problem was resolved for a good period of time with a new PCU (long enough for the toner to contaminate the dev), is a dead give a way of a bad batch of toner in my opinion.

After market toner is never of the same quality as the original one. It can work for years, and suddenly give problems. After market toner always gives problems in the long run.

Not only is not the same quality as the original, it is not always the same quality from one bottle to the next.

Today I installed a brand new Pcu with toner all Ricoh genuine. We shall see...

You will see that you'll never see that SC's again with the original toner. After market toner is cheap, but you loose that benefit by visiting the customer for toner related problems.
