    Firemware update for 2035eSP Copier

    Hello all,

I am having a issue getting scan to email working, as this is a older machine and email has changed so much I figure this is my only hope. I have to use an email account that requires that I use smtp auth to make it work and the copier keeps returning a 553 error on me. I setup a email account in outlook on one of the computer to make sure I was not entering bad info and it works fine just bombs on the copier. I was wondering if anyone out there has the latest firmware for this copier so I can update it and get this issue to go away.

    Thank You,

    Bill

You say that it requires authenication. SMTP error 553 is usually a failure to authenicate properly. Does it also require SMTP over SSL? If it does, the 2035 is to old to support that function.

If the email service allows port 25 SMTP, then recheck your spelling, including case, on both the authentication email address and the password.

If they need SMTP over SSL, you may have to setup a local email emulation server. See thread "email server emulation" started two weeks ago. There are a number of software (free and otherwise) referenced by other techs.

          Hello,

I have setup the DNS to use the current ISP, the Firewalls and Google's DNS to make sure, The Gateway is the one for the rest of the network. I have tested what I am using on copier on a computer (I have setup Outlook and sent test emails while on the same network and it works fine). The SMTP server I am using requires authentication but not SSL and the port it is using is 587 (I have also tried another account that uses port 25 and again is NOT SSL). I have used these credentials on other copiers and have not had issues. I am sure all the setting are right I spent 2 hours going over them to see if I fat fingered something and then had another tech look them over and everything seems to be ok. I also redid the SMTP credentials SEVERAL times just to make sure I can only figure that the firmware is so old that putting in any kinda of SMTP auth screws it up that is why I am looking for the most recent version of it.

          Thanks
          Bill

Can't help you with firmware, but have you tried using the IP address of the SMPT server instead of the name, or vice versa? I've had several occasions that the machine would only except it one way or the other, but not both.
I have also run into a few older boxes that simply, and inexplicably would not send mail, updated firmware, or not. No matter what 'workaround' I tried.

Bottom line is, it sounds like you're doing, and may have done, everything you can. The machine's 10 years old, and it just might not work they way they would like in their current environment. This is the time when it should become their problem, and not yours.

Thanks for the reply and the idea but alas I have already tried that. I am a IT guy really not a copier guy, so I know networking very well and my last hope was the firmware.

              Thanks agian

nyates list is current except for the LCDC which usually don't update unless it is a mandatory update. There was also a Beta controller firmware released 001/17/2007 to address a specific problem with some SMTP servers.

Thanks Slim do you have any idea where I might be able to get this firmware other than Ricoh of course. There appeared to be a great site called Tessa but it shut down.

                    Thanks

Tessa is Ricoh, and it is running just fine; just not updated since 20th August 2012.

Hello Bill - Those can be maddening? I have been able to solve this issue through updating the firmware in the past, so keep looking.

Does anyone know what the latest NIB firmware version is for this machine? I don't have any idea, but if Bill could compare the version his machine has with what is known to be the latest firmware, that may provide a clue.

The NIB firmware is the firmware I have had to update on 3224c-type machines to get them to work with scanning to email.

                            Keep us posted!

                              Hello all,

I just wanted to check back in I seem to have gotten it to work without the firmware, It appears that Hard Drive was replaced with a hard drive from another system and was never erased. So today I reformatted it and retired my info and it worked!!!! So if you know you are putting in everything ok and it not working you might want to try that. Thanks again to everyone and their help.

                              Thanks
