Need help with ScanRouter Service - Ricoh - Savin Scanner

Hello I am new here but glad I found this site. I been having issues like many here but I must preface this by saying they are scanning. The problem is something different.

Less than a month ago I picked up new customer. When I arrived I studied and made an inventory of all the computers and equipment.

    3 machines total 2 Windows Vista Business SP-2 and 1 Windows 7 Pro SP-1

The machine that acts like the server in this peer network had Vista and a virus got in and was really messing up the system. I then removed virus, backed up everything and installed fresh Windows 7 Pro SP-1 and put back all files and programs. Now there are 2 Windows 7 machines and 1 Vista

Here is where the copier/network scanner comes into play. This PC originally had the Scan Router Lite V2 Admin Utility and I reinstalled it here. I just don't recall how I installed it. Can someone let me know what is the proper way to install? Is it as a service, etc?

I know this was built back in the Win2000 days but it does work under Windows 7 Pro SP-1 32-bit. I made sure that the IP of the delivery server inside the copier was added as a fixed IP to the server machine. I also made sure the Windows 7 firewall had the correct ports open as well as access to all files related to network scanning. I even went ahead and took just about every .exe file related to the Scan Router and set it to compatibility mode of XP SP-2 and run as admin.

The copier/scanner is a SAVIN 2535P. Most people on here would probably say not worth the hassle and just get rid of it but it works and is damn fast when it comes to copies and scans. Really fast.

So at first we were having problems and then I figured out what to do and provided a temp fix which they are still using more than a week later but they scan and that is what counts.

The issue is the Scan Router Lite Admin Utility would not start it's service I had to go into the program and click on it to run. Unfortunately did not know it was running as it still shows service suspended when in reality it is running but when I had them scan it worked.
Why does the program show this error when clearly it is working?

Anyways when they leave for the day and turn off the machines there is the problem. The next day when they power up the machines again they loose connectivity with the scanner so the temp fix is to run the Scan Router Admin, click on start services and close the program. Then thru the whole day they are scanning. Once they leave and then return the next day same thing again.

I want this service to run automatically automatically and not have them do it manually each day.
I should also mention that when I view the logs inside the Admin program there is one error showing and it is always the same one: Error Launching of Scanner Driver Has Failed. I am sure this is the problem here also but I don't know what to do about it.

To recap they are scanning with my temp fix all I need is for this service to run automatically and they will not have to worry about doing to manually. Thanks for any help you can give.

    Regards,
    Victor

Scan Router is an ancient utility and it's no longer supported by Ricoh for many years... I can't remember when I installed it the last time, but it has been many years ago. The only thing you can try is set up Scan-to-Email.

That is something that is not a priority. They need to scan to a file and then it can be emailed later if needed.

They do scan to file right now I just need to eliminate the manual work of them having to open the program and then click on Start Services. It should start automatically.

The latest os supported was Windows XP (with a few adjustments in the firewall configuration). Windows Vista and higher are not supported anymore by Ricoh. The only thing that I can think of is write a script that starts the Scan Router service when the computer boots.

I was thinking about that. I do see in the services portion of the control panel some services from the software but it just do not seem to stick. I am just glad they can scan using my temp method because in many threads I read no one could scan at all.

Double click these services and check the setting for Start Up Type. If it is changed to Manual or Disabled, this could be the problem. Try setting them to Automatic (Delayed Start). If Delayed Start is not available as a choice then use Automatic. Also check the Dependencies tab. If any of these services are dependent on a system component that is not started, set that component service to Automatic startup. You may also want to add the .exe file(s) to the startup folder.

The only thing I ever did differently on Win7, Vista, etc, (when I was forced to set it up on one of those OS's) was turn off UAC (User account control). It would prevent the service from starting for whatever reason, PLUS it's just a pain in the ass anyway. I would have to manually start the service on the first reboot, but then it would start automatically from then on.
I also always checked "run in service mode" during setup.

I turned off UAC and it did not matter. I should have installed in service mode. That probably would have cleared it up

Is there a way to change the program into this mode or does it require a reinstall?

Reinstall, but I don't think that it'll work. I've never got it working with anything later than XP.

Ricoh, if they'll even entertain you, will tell you the same.

Since it was working on Vista, why not ry installing it on the other Vista machine?

If you do a 'Repair" install in 'add/remove programs', you will have the opportunity to select "run in service mode", without the need of completely removing the software. I'm not sure if that will resolve your issue, but that is how I've ALWAYS set it up, and as I said before the UAC setting, and then manually starting the service for the first run, is the ONLY thing I've done differently to set it up on Win 7, Server 2008, etc., and I still have it running in several locations.

yeah its doesn't work in windows 7, ive tried it to many time, the copier machines now do direct to comp scans now no more database or server.
What I did is just buy another computer a small one even a net book then share the drive to scan too use the net book as a server, with XP installed.

They had a new program but its work well with old ricoh or lanier copiers.

                          good luck.

You can install the scan router v2 lite on vista and window 7, everything look fine but the scanfile never reached your computer. So it still won't work on win 7.

I cant let it go. It works for them and they dont want to change. When it scans and copies it is super fast!
