Ricoh 3245c series fuser belt torn twice in 2 months, low volume

    HI all

I just wanted to get some feedback on the fuser belts in the 3245c series copier. . .

Customers fuser belt tore 2 months back so I replaced the belt along with the heat roller (the metal one which flakes) and pickoff pawl assy.

The belt has now torn again!!

All the pickoff fingers are still in place.

Customer reports the machine was working fine but had a jam then the belt tore!

Is there a bulletin on the fuser belt?

    Looking forward to your comments!

    Thanks

The customer isn't using the little blue wheel when clearing the jams and dislodging a claw or 2 and then the claw rips the belt

Advise the Customer to be extra carefully when removing any jams from the fuser and instruct them on how to pull the fuser unit out fully so they can access the release wheel.

also Replace the complete fuser unit they isn't that much difference in price between rebuilding or replacing those ones.

The thermostats are the cause of this. Over time they tend to come in contact with the Fusing Belt.

Inkjet paper can cause the strippers to dig into the belt. Doesn't take many prints for that to happen.

With photo glossy inkjet paper, the glossy coating can actually stick to the fusing belt. When the customer has to pay for the new fusing unit, they usually don't make the mistake twice.

you have to change the Oil Supply Roller and the cleaning roller. when i change the belt i removed the pickoff pawl assy.

              Thanks all!

This has happened again since last post!

I had checked the thermostat assy and made sure there were no toner buildup. Then installed new belt and pickoff pawl assy.

The claim they did not pull the paper out and that they had used the blue jam release wheel.

They now believe the fault lies with the spare parts!

I have explained to them many of times about removing jams in this area and they now claim they never yank it out.

I have also explained the jams could be happening due to dampness in the paper especially because the machine is in a porch.

There is a document which they printed dated 2 days ago next to the machine and it clearly shows that both ends of the paper have been completely fused and there are no crumples. If the belt had moved since installation, this would be either crumpled or not fused on one end.

Maybe its the paper jamming in this area then causing the belt to slip????

                  Hi there!
In 99% of the fuser-maintanance, we change belt, hotroller, pressroller, thermistor, sep-assy, oil- & cleaningroller as a set. Normaly we have no problems xmt the customer use "bad" or wrong paper. One time there was a defective belt and the customer said that he has no explanation for it. At the rebuilding process i found some small pieces of inkjet-high glossy paper. The bill was really high, but after that, there was never a "problem" again! Funny, or not?
                  Greetings...

If the oil supply roller runs dry, you WILL get frequent torn fusing belts!

The printer kit fuser fits straight into this machine with no modding...even cheaper still
