Ricoh MPC2550 scan to email issue

This is my first post here, I don't normally service business copiers so I feel a little "fish out of the water" atm.....

My parent's church's got a MPC2550 that had Scan to mail working for the longest time but recently it stopped working. Apparently this started happening when they changed their email hosting to Windstream from Google. Windstream claims that the issue is not on their end and Ricoh(or Ikon, where they lease the copier from) is been less than helpful. They're currently using Gmail as the mail account to send scanned files out.

    SMTP : smtp.gmail.com
    port: 465
    Authentication on
    POP: pop.gmail.com
    port: 995

SSL/TSL is set to ciphertext priority on the copier side but I doubt that has anything to do with the SSL encryption on the SMTP server. When I attempt to send an scanned document, the copier starts to transmitt the file but eventually times out after three failed attempts. No error message.

I have checked that firewall is allowing traffics on those two ports along with all the default POP/SMTP ports but that doesn't seem to matter. I've also tried another SSL email account but runs into the same issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The 2550 is not capable of working with SSL, if you had the newer version of that machine (2551) it would be.

To be more precise, the 2550 does not support SMTP over SSL which smtp.gmail.com requires.

      Use the following serttrings:
      1. SMTP : aspmx.l.google.com
      2. port: 25
      3. Authentication off

This will allow you to send to another gmail account. To swend to a non-gamil account, you will have to send to yourelf and then forward. The other drawback would be if the ISP block port 25 smtp.

Another option is to load a relay softwarte such as Stunnel on a computer to act as a local SMTP relay service.

My favorite solution is to (have the customer) create a free account with GMX (gmx.com), and use that.

Straightforward SMTP, port 25. and requires authentication.

          Easy peasy!

Still runs into a problem if someone like AT&T is the ISP and blocks port 25.

One other I forgot to mention is my earlier post, check with windstream and see if they support non ssl on port 80. That gets around the ISP being able to block the port since port is also the port used for browsers.

Windstream should have an alternative for you that doesn't use ssl, as does Cox and Centurylink. It may need authentication and not be a completely open relay. Cox does this by a static IP issued to your router. Centurylink does it differently.

I would agree. GMX seems to be blocked by all ISP's here. I've been unable to receive email from it on any of my 3 email accounts here.
I've setup a YAHOO (which uses port 587) for many of my clients, when I'm in a pinch. Never had an issue.

Still a problem if the ISP requires SMTP over SSL. MP C2550 is to old to support SMTP over SSL.

If doesn't mean does....and at least in Aussie that's not very common. I haven't struck one yet in 15 years or so I've been setting up scan to email and email clients for customers. :-) in most cases the isp's here don't even require authentication if you are on their network.

You've dug up an old thread here.
GMX has previously been suggested. I don't know where you're located, but as I stated earlier, here in Canada GMX is blocked by virtually every mail client I've tried.
Also, since this thread was created /terminated...Yahoo now requires SSL, so it's no longer an option either.
I've personally gone the route of subscribing to my own web hosting package, and using the non SSL account settings from an account I've created on my own mail server, when the client doesn't have their own non-ssl option to piggy-back off.
