    Ricoh SR4010 Staple Issue

    Hello everyone,

I have an SR-4010 finisher. When you put in the staple cartridge it makes the sound as if it loading the staples then it shows that it is out of staples. When you remove the cartridge there are a bunch of spent staples on the top of the unit. I have this issue on more than one finisher.

    Any help is much appreciated!!!

Have you tried another catridge (the complete cartridge, not just new staples); these units do wear down quickly, so are a consumable part. If you have, try swapping the staple unit with another machine; have had a few wear down or a bar broken here or there, at some point.

Had the same a few years ago. The Staple Cartridge contains a lever that activates a sensor in the Staple Unit when the staples run out. If that lever is broke you"ll get messages that say that the staples have run out.
Like Ruben says : replace the whole Staple Cartridge.

If that lever is broken then the finisher won't attempt to load staples as it doesn't recognise that the staple cartridge is installed.
However, I would be replacing the staple cartridge before trying anything else.
One word of warning though, earlier this year I had a Martini with a staple problem, so I tried the complete staple cartridge first, it didn't work, so I fitted a new stapler, still no joy, so I returned with a harness (anyone who's replaced this will understand why I didn't relish replacing this)...still the same problem. Well this customer had an old machine out on the landing all wrapped up waiting to be collected, with the same finisher, I couldn't just swap finishers as other techs had already used it for spare parts, but I fitted the finisher board from it onto my problem one, even this didn't cure it. Anyway, I was pulling my hair out and I spoke to a member of my team who helpfully told me to change the staple cartridge again, after telling him he was an idiot (in the nicest possible way ) I swapped the cartridge with one that I knew was working, well I'll be damned, I'd had 2 faulty staple cartridges

There are two sensors in the staple head. One senses if there is a cartridge with staples installed. The other senses when the staples have been fed to the staple position. The first is under the staple cartridge. It has a small tab that sticks up to detect the staples in the staple cartridge. For the second one, remove the staple head from the finisher. You will see a black plastic lever. When the staples have advanced to the staple position and preformed they will push against the lever. This swings the tab on the bottom of the level into the sensor. The usual cause of this problem is that the lever has come loose from its pivots. See the attached images.
