If you have the buttons on the operation panel, then the SD card is either missing, defective or not fully inserted. The other posibility is a defective controller board or ram.

      All good points.
Wouldn't you think that the poster could at least have provided some of the information that he has checked or tried other than pressing the 'user tools' button.
      My guess: no printer/scanner/fax installed

I think it might be an end user. I don't think I would have a tech who does not know the difference between "User Tools" and service mode. I forgot to comment on that on my first post.

I would tend to agree with you, except his lengthy post history includes Ricoh, and many different manufacturers, which is what's so bothersome.

Wow. Still, I'll have a stab at fault-finding.

Does it have fax "line" and "tel" connectors on it?

Does it have a print/scan SD card in it?

Does it have print, scan and fax buttons on the ops panel?

Does it have a fax board inside the controller in the back of the machine?

Have you enabled the network card?

The simple answer to this wholly vague question is that there isn't a simple answer. If you can provide some information then it'll be an awful lot easier to help. On the other hand, if you simply can't be arsed then it's pretty much game over. As things stand, your question can be summarised as follows:

                "This no work. Why?"

And from this, having thought about it for literally 10 seconds, I can deduce that either you're an end user or a very poor technician. No offence.
