    mp 6001 NVRAM question.

    HI.
i deal in lease return copiers and just got in MP6001 wth 115k and it has
that DOSS security option which i have never seen before.
i wanted to change user setting ie timer settings and it seems i cant.
i assume the admin generic passwords are not used since it has the security option installed.
i have to set this machine up tommr and would like to be able to make changes and am worried it
    will be a headache.
if i print out the smc report can i then copy an NVRAM image from another working, nonpassword mp 6001 and
    then make any changes?
is the security option only a sd card? Anything i need to know to uninstall it and possible install it on a different machine..
    thanks a bunch in advance

    ?

Have you tried the supervisor login? If that has been changed you will need to contact the previous owner, see if they kept a record of the login.

What I know about those DOS-Units is that if you replace an NVRAM, you should also order a new DOS-Unit. So I don't think you can swap this unit to another machine. I haven't experimented with DOS-Units. We only sold 1 a few years ago.

Isn't there an NVRAM reset tool available for Ricoh copiers? Wouldn't that work? I have this software.

Have you tried the dafault log in?? DOSS doesn't nessasarily have to change the admin log in, it most often is used to securely delete data off the hard drive during operation.

DOSS is data overwrite security system. All it does is a secure erase of print and copy jobs a few seconds after the job finishes. As long as the supervisor password has not been changed, you can use supervisor to change the machine administrator. You can then login as the new administrator and setup things the way you want.

              hi.
i havent tried to log on as i had 2 days to clean, prep and test 2 units and i was working in my garage which was a toasty 24 degrees.
i was putting off doing more till i had it in a warm location..
if i might ask, what are/is the supervisor passwords? i have never had need to use..
as for the doss option,it is not needed here and will be removed but from what i read when that option is added to a machine its is advised that all default passwords "not be used"..this i read on my manual..again i have no experience wth this but understand washing a drive and imprints from copying, printin and copying....any info is appreciated..............

its kinda funny seeing the temp display in service mode show 24 degrees..
i found out machine will run wth front door open on startup wthout the drum or dev units, which were sitting
                  inside my 65 degree basement..

Supervisor is the super administrator. Login to WIM or the control panel as supervisor. The default password is the same as the default password for admin. Once logged in the only thing that you can do is manage administratorsSimply change the name for administrator 1 back to admin and the password back to the default. It is only advised to change the admin the default passwords not required. Most techs don't or else have their own company default that they set on all machines. DOSS merely ensures that there is no potentially propriety information left on the HDD that a hacker could recover. It is now pretty much required by most medical, legal, government, major corporations, and schools.

                      just an update,
turns out they never made any changes to the admin password..
i was concerned because the DOSS setup had the password change as mandatory..
why buy an option and not set it up to specs?
thnx all n njoy ur holidays
