Ricoh mp2852 authenication error for scan to email SSL

    Hi all,

My co-worker has a customer that can no longer scan to e-mail. They pay for a Yahoo business account which they send through the Yahoo servers. They are not using xxx@yahoo.com e-mails. Everything was fine up until a few weeks ago. I believe that Yahoo has started using smtp with SSL. The customer insists that he has all the correct info entered that Yahoo has provided. A connection test to the server from the machine is successful. I have never set up any one using SSL yet. Looking through the past posts there is a lot of info that seems to have posted 4-5 months ago. Has anyone any recent info about this issue? They are using the smtp.bizmail.yahoo.com server. I have tried with SSL turned on and off with no difference. Hopefully someone here has actually done this and can give me some advice. TIA and Happy New Year!

    Yes.
Yahoo switched to SSL, so it's a no go anymore. I had several clients using it - It created many headaches for me before the holidays!
Suggest that they subscribe to web-hosting package ($40-60 /year), which typically offers an SSL AND non-SSL solution.
I've just recently subscribed to my own for this very reason, and will use my mail server settings when the client doesn't have their own. It removes all the hassles that come along with all the other mail servers like "yahoo" when they decide to make changes like this.

I think they need to talk to YAHOO.
If they are paying for email, then all their equipment should work.

Any good network admin can bypass the SSL for a single account.

It may be a copier problem, but copiers are at least 2 years behind computer security and IT people only want to work with HP product, because it is easier to setup page printers than document printers.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

All good points NM. I actually have no experience with the "Business Yahoo" email, I've only dealt with the basic free version, but I know it now requires SSL.

Re: Ricoh mp2852 authenication error for scan to email SSL

The MP2852 is cabable of SMTP over SSL. The following is from the global knowledgebase. You also might have to download and install or update the security certificate.

How do I enable SSL for SMTP connections?

SSL encryption for SMTP connections can be specified by the network administrator.
To enable SSL encryption for SMTP connections, follow these steps:
          1. Press the [User Tools/Counter] key.
          2. Press [System Settings].
          3. Press [File Transfer].
          4. Press [SMTP Server].
          5. In "Use Secure Connection (SSL)", press [On]. If you are not using SSL for SMTP connections, press [Off]. When "Use Secure Connection (SSL)" is set to [On], the port number is set to 465 and cannot be changed.
          6. Press [OK].
          7. Press [Exit].
          8. Press the [User Tools/Counter] key.

          Note

          • If you set "Use Secure Connection (SSL)" to [On], you cannot bypass the SMTP server to send Internet Fax documents directly.

I appreciate all the info that has been provided here, but new developments have happened. Apparently Ricoh 01&02 series machines have a lot of problems with SSL. THe customer uses Frontier as their ISP and want to funnel it to Yahoo through Frontier. Has anyone done this before as I have no clue on how this works. Any more advice greatly appreciated. TIA

Check with Frontier and find out if they have email service. Most ISP's do and provide customers with a primary email address and password for account management. As long as the ISP's SMTP does not require SSL, you can use the account management email address and password to authenticate with. The customer can then use their Yahoo addresses as senders.

Sorry for the late reply. Customer IT was very obstinate about it being a problem with the machines. Had to go to the owner and explain issue. Frontier provided them with a free email and Voila, everything works. Thanx to all that gave me the advice.

Who are you using for the web hosting package? This would be a useful option for the many people who are using the likes of hosted Exchange or Office365.

I chose http://www.hostpapa.ca/. I don't think they operate on the other side of the pond, but there are countless providers. You just need to make sure they offer the option of an unencrypted mail server, but i think most do, and in my case it eliminated all the other headaches I ran into using "YAHOO" or "GMX', etc. when they decide to make changes. I'm a one man show, and I'm continuously learning about this stuff on the fly, so I just need solutions that work, and that's all my customers want to, so this is a solution that I've decided to use and works EVERY time I need it.

It seems, having had a preliminary chat with one of my brothers, that he has an SMTP server after all that. I'm going to get further information from him tomorrow with a view to routing awkward mail that way.

He is a bit of a gobshite though, so watch this space!

We have our website and company email with GoDaddy. One thing I have discovered about their SMTP server. You can use port 80 for SMTP. Gets around those ISP such as AT&T who block all non-SSL SMTP and any SSL SMTP to anyone but their servers. Port 80 is the port used for browsing so they cannot block any activity on it.
