I have 2 MP C4503 copiers that were our first attempt at installing smart panels on. I didn't install the panels on the first 2 (problem machines), but I did install one (our third) successfully, but I was aided by the information found from the first two installed.
One of the machines we have in the shop, the other is in the field. I didn't do the work to the first two installs, so I am not sure exactly what was done to them, but this is my understanding of the what went wrong. The Java on the machine needs to be v1.13 or higher for the smart panels to operate properly, and the level of firmware on these machines was at 1.11 when the smart panels were installed. They sent a tech to repair issues in the field that was seeing the new panels for the first time. I guess he figured out that the Java wasn't proper, and tried to downgrade the copiers back to the original op panels, to update the Java, and then re-install the SOP back onto the machines.
When I run a sp 5990-024 on the one machine I have the smart panel successfully installed on, it shows the current level of Java is 1.14, which is proper, and the most current version as far as I know. However when I run the SP 5990-024 on the two problem machines it only shows an extended version of Java, but the main Java doesn't appear on the page. When I looked at extended features in user tools, it shows "searching" and FM (flash media) is the location it shows it is searching for.
The machine I have at the shop had the smart panel, but I have downgraded back to the original op panel, I have set all the SPs back to original, and have downgraded the firmware back to it's original (most current) configuration. This machine still behaves the same as the one still in the field with the SOP. I tried to install the Java via the sdk folder from the SD card, but when the try the panel reports "starting firmware upgrade" but never goes any further.
I'm not at the machines now, and as I said I'm not sure what was done to the two problem machines, but as I reflect back it seems the machine that I successfully installed, had a Java card in the top slot, and the ones with the problem have a browser type f card installed in the top slot. I do know there have been all sorts of hands over those machines as they had the IT dept install features as well as the service department.
If someone could please help me recover the Java on these machines it would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Marc
