SP3400sf False Life End Print Cartridge Msg

I have one of these beasts that will not acknowledge a new cartridge. I don't have but one or two of these machines, so don't know much about them (except dynamite may be the most useful service part to carry)

I found the sensor detecting the flag on a new cartridge and it was clean. No visible reason to fail, but the customer has tried several cartridges and this is the only machine that has this problem.

Is there anything else I should be looking for, and is there a way to reset the message from service mode?

To reset the counter requires the use of a new cartridge that has not been put in any other machine. If you look on the top of the toner cartridge you will see a small PCB with four contact pads. Two of those contacts are connected to a fuse. When you install a new cartridge, the machine sees the fuse and resets the counter. It then blows the fuse.

The chip on this one is only to determine if it's Ricoh Genuine, and to keep track of the print count. Reset is accomplished by a flag on the cartridge and a photoreflector.

Is there any chance the cartridges were all damaged? I had something similar this happen to me a while back on a different machine, turned out that the three new cartridges I tried were all equally cooked.

Stranger things have happened I suppose, but I'd have to express the probability in scientific notation. They have several of these machines and this one has been a constant problem, but not a lick of trouble from the others.

Have you replaced the little sensor that detects the new cartridge yet?

Customer finally admitted they were using 3rd party toner refills - none of the cartridges in the shipment worked and other machines started having the same problem. Dang things looked like OEM - Going to sic Ricoh Legal on the toner pirate company... and billed the customer for every second of time I wasted on their machine. That would have bought a LOT OEM toner. Probably new machine too.
