    Or move to London.
Llama, why ? Whats the story with London ? I ask cos I'm on my way back there in search of employment.

M2digital, thats a good site, but every employer there wants you to be 'manufacturer trained' , which not all of us are.

I think you may have hit the nail on the head with that first sentence. My employer and manager are great believers in first time fixes, as I'm sure most are. Don't get disheartened with it though, being good at this job takes time and unfortunately it isn't something you can be expected to be good at the second someone passes you a screwdriver.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

      Hit it.

        Thank you for that.

It's hard sometimes to get the moral when the boss is constantly ridiculing my work, even when the call is complete. I do appreciate constructive criticism as it helps me know where to focus my efforts, and has helped me (so far) to make sure I never make the same mistake twice.
I have only got a compliment from my boss on 2 occasions where he sent me to a job that was way out of my depth and I came out with a perfect fix. Makes me feel like I'm not doing enough to impress him and almost feels like I will never be able to get it right.

If anyone's got an apprentice out there, please keep reassuring them that they're doing ok, otherwise the negative comments will just sit in their mind and the positives will simply pass on by.

Usually, bosses don't give too much compliments to easy, they consider that the good fixes are normal things. Most important : If you like what you do,good thing comes after
Defects are simple, our mind is complicated

It's a fact of human nature that every person has an innate requirement to feel good about themselves from within.
A large percentage of people have a very low self esteem and always feel negative within themselves to varying degrees.
These negative people find a sense of self purpose through bringing others down to their level of low self worth.
This then allows the negative person to feel elevated above other people from within themselves.

It is a fact of life that people will vary seldom remember the positive actions or deeds done by others, but they sure as sh!t will never forget the negative or miss-deeds done by the same person. Again it come back to the low-esteem person who feels elevated from within when ever you do more negative than postive in your daily life.

Well I didn't actually realise how good I have it here. I will finish my first year in 2 weeks and have been working on my own for approx 7 months. It started only on B&W machines under 60ppm but after a pretty much 90% first time fix rate (or if I didn't know, a quick call to my senior for advice fixed it anyway) and then colour came just as easy. Haven't touched 60ppm+ or production yet but we are only small and only have a couple in the field. I put it down to the fact that I have an excellent senior tech who shows me a lot of stuff on our downtime so I can learn. I get the equivalent of just over 7 pound (going up to 9), a company car at my disposal, laptop and phone. I do have a background in IT and mechanics though so I guess it just came easy to me and it's appreciated by the boss. Then again I'm in Australia so the wage has a minimum but I get over that anyway. Just keep plugging along and do your best.

I suppose it depends on the company, but it's been my experience that the only compliments you can expect to receive are the ones you give yourself. I have no problem relishing the thought of a righteous fix, and give myself a pat on the back sometimes.
