    Bypass jams MP3500

Got sent to one of these Ricohs last week, am a KonicaMinolta man myself. Bypass continually refuses to feed correctly, paper stops half out of the tray. I have cleaned feed rollers that seem rather worn and have them on order, but am suspicious of the clutch as have had previous problems with ricoh adf clutches.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to this problem ?
I am not familiar with all the SP codes..personally i much prefer the KM system and machines but we now have to work on these machines after a buyout!
I decided to order the clutch as well as paper feeds from the main trays without a problem and cannot see what else could be a problem.
Please do not PM me without asking first.

Sounds like a paper type/size mismatch to me, rather than a mechanical problem (although fresh feed rollers are always a good idea).

It's not a smart bypass. You have to program the correct paper size.

Thanks for the reply. I have already checked that the paper size is correct. Forgot to mention that the user stated that the fault suddenly happened....as users do!!

How about the orientation? Does it jam on legal or ledger size jobs? Try sending the job with no paper in the bypass, the display will indicate which orientation to face the paper.

If you watch the paper feed into the bypass, are the rollers rotating while the paper sits still? If so, the problem is most likely the rollers. If the rollers stop turning, the problem is the roller drive and could be the clutches.
If this started happening all at once, see if the paper they are using is something the machine can actually feed. I think the bypass is rated to feed something around sixty to seventy pound paper stock max, anything more than that can cause problems like this. I might be mistaken about the max paper weights though, so check the manual to be sure.
Also, if you haven't tried it already, take the paper out of the bypass and put it in an otherwise properly operating feed drawer. If it jams there, it might just be bad paper.
All in all, based on the info you provided, the roller change should do the trick, though.

Check the torque limiter on the sep roller.

Swap it with a low used tray and see if it improves.

leave the bad one in a unused tray until you can get the new one in your hands.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?
