    Ricoh Pro C-900

First time seeing one of these copiers; customer has not used copier for at least a year maybe 2 because of SC 398-01 and Ricoh service. I was called out on another machine and asked if I would look at this copier. I understand the problem is due to one of the developing units and there were a # of possible causes. I'm hoping someone out there can help me narrow it down and give some help as to where these units are located I'm thinking just behind the toner cartridges???
    Thanks!!!

Magemta drum rotation error - Drum stop error. Could be as simple as a bad encoder. It could be excessive load on either the drum unit, such as a flipped cleaning blade, or development unit. Or it could be a bad motor. We don't put a machine has been setting for a year on a maintenance contract without first doing complete PM on all drum and development units. If the ITB, PTR, or fusing are over 25% of maintenance count you would be best to do a PM on them as well. This way, you don't get stuck 2 or 3 months into a contract with the cost of having to do them.

Actually, try underneath the toner cartridges. Open the front doors and look above where the door hinges are and you should see a phillips head thumb screw. Lift open toner cartridge door, remove thumb screws and whole top cover should lift off. You should then see 4 covers with 3 screws and 4 black corona units. Remove the corona unit by pressing down on the release lever on the right side and slide corona out, then take the 3 screws out and remove the cover. Unscrew the lavender pinwheel and pull out drawer. You should see from R to L the dev unit , drum , drum cleaning unit. Turn right knob to release and lift out cleaning unit, turn the big drum lock nut to release drum and lift out and the dev unit is there.
slimslob is correct in that most of the time a flipped drum cleaning blade will cause this issue. If not then I would look to see if the drum looks all trashed. If so then look to see if the mag roller has an excessively large brush of developer. If so then you need to really empty the developer out of the unit and replace dev, and drum. Those are the most common causes. Good luck.

P.S. always put the cover back on before sliding corona unit back in to avoid scratching the drum.

very common this, what usually happens is the side seals on the cleaniing unit wear out causing this.
