Breaking Marks and Lines - MPC2500

This problem is giving me headache. The print out by Ricoh MPC2500 have white breaking marks and lines especially on a full color print out. Sometimes it appears in black and white too. I have changed the transfer belt and cleaning blade but the problem still persist. My partner consider changing the transport belt. Hope to get some advice from you guys here. Thanks.

P.s. Kindly please have a look at the attachment.

Some strange object inside Developer group of the affected color. Maybe some piece of sponge or paper. Empty the developer, find the pieces and reassemble.

      Hi Skynetto,

Thanks for the info. But i am wondering how could a foreign object goes into the development unit. Hehe

Could be paper dust or just clogged with hard toner on the doctor blade of the effected dev unit.

Enter sp mode and under "drum" there is a test print SP. Run a test print of each color using the vertical band (17, I think). This will tell you which PCU/Dev unit is causing the problem.

I've had oem developer with chunks in it harder than a brick, and it does cause lines when trapped at the doctor blade.

I would agree it looks like a dev unit clogged, ive had it happen several times just small chunk of toner stuck on the doctor blade basically rubbing a dead space on the mag roller.

You can do SPs to print patterns and what not, I find the easiest for me is to set color mode so you can specify 1 color on the display screen then just open the scanner top and print a skyshot in each color. one or more of them will have a white line from lead edge to trail this is the clogged mag roller, you can then remove that pcu, seperate the dev unit and see the bare spot or hold the skyshot up to the roller and see in that area where developer is thinned out.

These can be a pain sometimes i usually just use a piece of paper and stuck it under the roller and slide it around to free it up. I am sure other techs have methods that may be easier.

I have had a few of these where the toner clots and these lumps get stuck between the doctor blade and the mag roller. This causes the dev to be scraped off the mag at that point. Short of removing them from the dev tank or replacing the dev and/or tank there is no other fix.

I have had limited success using a doctor blade cleaning tool onn color development units. It gets rid of the lines by moving the clumps out to the ends of the doctor blade, but they do eventually come back.

i have had a few dev units with low count "clog the doctor blade"with toner clumps etc from sitting
unused for a while"lease return machine i buy i put back out,,
its not worth the time to try to clean..i like to mcgyver more than my share but on these calls i swap out
a new bag of developer after cleaning out the old..

I would say probably 90% of the ones i have cleaned that were just toner chunks ran fine, only maybe 1 or 2 have i had to do it again in the last year or two. Most of my machines over the last year however are under pm for any developer or units, my territory had a lot of new installs last year, and they are low volume for the most part.

On a lighter note, if I'm interpreting the breaking marks correctly, it does look like at least the yellow developer is worn out. One easy way to tell is to copy a black and white original in full color mode, and use the color conversion function to change white to the basic colors (yellow, magenta, cyan) one at a time. You will easily see the offending color, and know which developer needs to be cleaned or changed.
You might want to clean the laser filter glass with the blue tool in the front cover if you haven't tried that already. No laser = no image after all.

                            Hi guys,

Thanks so much for all the kind advice and input. I did some cleaning on the dev units but the fine lines still appears. I guess the yellow developer need to be changed but i am holding it back. Simply bcoz i am using original and compact toner together. I want to change all the developer and use all compact toner. I will update again. Thanks again.

What is compact toner? If you mean compatible one, please dont. In the long run you'll spend more replacing parts.
