    yes, your tip worked

my tech looked at all the complicated stuff, instead of starting with the easy stuff first.

    thanks for your help.

I am thinking of ordering an external w3600 card just for the hell of it to see if it will work with the 240w. I will let you know what I find

Print from Windows Vista to an XP computer plotbase

So did reseating the sep/trans fix the white blotches?

You can't use the card that comes with the 240 and the software that comes with the 2400 together. I've tried, the 2400 software rejects the PCI card. I think that the cable connection on the 2400 is wider, and so you couldn't go from a 2400 computer controller into a 240. But I'm not positive on that. I want to say that the two systems are designed not to be compatible though.

On a side note to all this...

I was able to print from Windows Vista to an XP computer hosing plotbase by installing the 2400 driver on vista, and setting up an LPR connection (to the Ricoh240's shared driver), for the port. If anyone needs details on how to do that, I can provide them.
ThankU for the comments, I am searching on how to plot from Vista to an XP plotbase. Can you please provide the instructions on how to do that?
      thanku much.

If you have clients that have upgraded to Vista and want to print through the plot base you can save your file directly to the CFG folder on the plotbase server as a .plt file and it will print as if you've sent it to the plotbase.

          Flyeagle,

These are step-by-step instructions I sent to a customer a while back for configuring a 2400 vista driver to print to a 240 xp plotbase....

Installing a Ricoh 240 printer driver on a Windows Vista machine.

          On the Vista Workstation:

Click on the Windows start button, and go to Control Panel, click on Programs, under Programs and Features, click Turn Windows Features on or off. Click Continue, in the list of windows services, expand the Print Services option. Click to activate the LPR Port Monitor option, click OK to start the installation process.

Go to Ricoh USA - Support Center and select Microsoft Windows Vista, or Vista x64, depending on which version of Vista you have. Download the Postscript3 Driver, and unzip it into a temp folder on the desktop.

Click on the Windows start button, and go to Control Panel, under Hardware and Sound, click on Printer. Click on Add a printer, select Add a local printer. Select Create a new port, and from the drop down menu, select LPR Port, and click Next. In the first field, where it says Name or address of server providing LPD:start, then control panel, then System. Then click on the Computer Name tab, and find the Full Computer Name. Everything up to the first period is the name of your machine. For example, Ricoh240.Mydomain.com, Ricoh240 is the name of the computer; the Mydomain.com portion refers to your network. You can further test this by going to the Windows Start button, selecting Run, or in the case of Vista typing in the search bar, \\Ricoh240Name of printer or print queue on that server:OK.

The following screen will prompt you for the print driver you want to install. Click on Have DiskDisk1, and inside of that folder select RICSETUP, and click OK. Select Ricoh Aficio MP W2400 PS, and click next. Name the printer Ricoh 240, and uncheck Set as default printer. Click next, and then Continue, once the installation if finished click Finish.

Your Ricoh240 printer should now be installed.

If the print does not go through:

On the Windows XP Ricoh controller.

Goto Start, Control Panel, Security Center, Windows Firewall. Under Exceptions, click Add Port, and type LPR for the port name, and 515 for port number. Do this once selecting TCP as the protocol, and once selecting UDP as the protocol. Click Ok, and close the firewall and control panel windows.

Hope this helps, am I any better than a ham sandwich now? (referring to post 7 to this thread, and I still don't have a copy of 3.7.1).

ThankU for your help on printing with Vista

ThankU Cobiray for the solution, it works very well.

And ThankU too RicohSuave for the solution, that is really helpful information too for some application that require that setting.
by the way, this might be of assistance:
            ftp://download.ratio.de/RICOH_3_7_1/RW-240_3_7_1.zip
I found it while searching to solve the mentioned problem.
Haven't tried it, let me know if it works.

            greetings.

Does anyone still have a valid link for the 3.7.1 Plotbase for a RW-240?

              Thanks, Hal

                hgrunwell,

You can get a copy directly from Ratio (262) 412-4212.

Around the same time I found that out, I found another print company hosting a copy on their FTP site. I lost the link to the site, but I still have the files. If you have an FTP site, I can upload the .zip to you. It's not an .iso unfortunately, but you should be able to burn all the files to a disc and run it.

If your plot base is on a windows 2000 OS, can you upgrade the PC to XP and go from the 3.3 plot base drivers to the 3.7? Or does the controller hardware need replacement also?

I'm trying to get a windows 7 pc to print on the network

                    xtiank,

For 3.6 I've been able to uninstall Plotbase using the uninstall string from the registry, but I tried that yesterday with 3.3 and failed. The only way I know of to update a controller from 3.3 to 3.7 is to wipe the box and start over.

So, I should be able to format the windows 2000 pc and fresh install XP, then install the 3.7 software to the existing card? I was wondering if I needed a new card also. The local distributer has been far from helpful since we purchased it. They even got worse when another company bought them. Thanks for you time

I upgraded from 3.3 to 3.7 last week. When I opened plotbase 3.7 it doesn't recognize the plotter anymore under the status box. It puts the program into simulation mode. Scantool works just fine but plotbase is no good. Has anyone seen this problem before?

                          Vista/7 support
There is windows Vista/7 support. But its a for purchase upgrade and it does not come from Ricoh. There is a newer version out called Plotbase 3.7.3

The 3.7.3 gives full autocad 2011 support and the latest Adobe PDF 1.8 support for batch plotting pdf files if you have that option.

If you are interested please contact me as we are a Ratio Dealer.
