    MPC2500 toner issue

Hi Guys got a call to the above machine saying it was loading toner all time check status levels all showed 81-100% but
on checking toner cartridges cyan & yellow found them to be empty but the machine didnt show any low
toner or empty warning sign at all. This machine was a refurb we sold a couple a months ago is there a setting im missing that
turns the low/empty toner warning on/off or poss firmware upgrade is required ?

Some tech if yours has disabled toner level detection maybe because of a pump failure. Check status of SP3045.

SP3045 is a quick fix if you have not got a replacement toner pump, but only lasts for a while before you get errors. Also toner levels show 80-100% for all.

Enable 3045 and find out which pump is faulty. No firmware req

As everyone has said check sp 3045

        set sp3045 to dont detect
run 3 or 4 A3 full coulour copies
        toner levels should max out
turn sp3045 back on restart machine an run a copy
toner levels should the set to the lvel in the bottle

Pretty common on those and the 3500s for toner pumps failing.

Yeah...temporary fix only....it runs the bottle dry and THEN sucks the toner from the dev and you get TD SC errors.

Kinda related question....How do the machines know how much toner is in a bottle? You say its reading a full bottle, but by changing that SP it then knows the correct amount? How does that work?

I always thought it was a time thing...machine knows how many revolutions of a full toner bottle until empty, or how long the toner bottle motor or pump is turned on until its near runout....I get the TD sensor voltage changes when its empty tho - that makes sense.

But I gotta be wrong if one second it knows its full, change an SP to on, then it recalculates and displays correct amount?

                  Re: MPC2500 toner issue

The machine controls SP 3222 (Vtref: Display) with what is on SP 3201 ( TD Sensor ) . If TD Sensor is reading more than Vtref the machine is in undertoner and asks for toner. If the pump is broken the Vtref will grow up instead of aligning with what the TD sensor is reading and the machine will substract a quantity of toner each time it is asking for toner. If the value of toner goes negative (it starts with 360gr colour toner and 450gr black toner) the machine is not able anymore to calculate how much toner remains in the bottle (you will see the icon of the correspondemt toner as not calculable).
If you disable toner detection with 3045 in reality it continues to calculate these values but will not stop until has sucked out all the toner and developer from the correspondenting Dev box. When you enable toner detection it will asks the toner chip for the quantity in the bottle. If the quantity is near to what it is calculated it will display the toner remain icon, otherwise will display the affected toner as not calculable. At the next toner replace (with a new toner bottle wich has never been placed on a machine) the icon will reset itself as full.
Hope I've explained it at best, as english is not my primary language.

If you consider the machines as something that on one end feeds in a blank sheet and outputs a printed sheet on the other end, it might not be so bad. At least that helped back in the analog days when after years of being rebranded Toshibas, Lanier chose to include machines from Sharp, Panasonic and Canon. Or when Lanier chose to become mostly rebranded digital Ricohs.

I went to machine today with low toner. The customer replaced the bottle and it still said low toner (1 bar on tbe toner icon). When I got there I did some half sky shots and the vt went up and up then it said no toner. I replaced the pump and did a forced toner and the vt went back down and the no toner message went. The icon still remained at 1 bar although a new bottle was in the machine. How would o get it back to reading full?? (Mpc2500)

The icon should update the next time the machine decides to add toner. Forced does not always force a chip update. If that does not correct the problem, change SP 3045, cycle power, change SP 3045 back and cycle power again. If still not corrected, you will have to wait until the next bottle change.
