MP5500 with no light on display

We received few reports of malfunctioning backlight light on MP 5500 Operation panels,
Machines work fine,it's not the "sc202 with no backlight" problem.
We were unable to detect the problem our self's because machines are on maintenance by other tech's,I'm guessing that meybe B238 1485 LCD STN W-VGA shuld be changed, but still I'd like to ask if anyone worked on this problem so far, perhaps it's board problem only?
Gears, springs, clutches, sliders, connectors and electronics...who on earth can tell what's wrong with it?

the roller thing that brightens and dims the screen is not stuck or anything is it. I have had a complain like this only to find someone rolled that switch all the way to black out the screen and didnt know it.

I forgot to write that it's not the variable resisting roller...first thing that crossed my mind when talking with tech on the phone...I kinda insulted him with that "did you check the contrast button?" line.

If you can shine a flash light at an angle across the displat and be ab le to read it, either the backlight or the high voltage power supply (located on the operation panel) for it are bad, or possibly both. If you have another machine of the same model series, swap the entire operation panel. You can send the bad one for repair. We had the same problem with a Savin 8075. Used the panel from a Gestetner DSm 755 that we had traded in.

I have forgotten the simplest of things before so i never get insulted, there are days you just say duh why didnt i think of that. I would say the panel is bad then, should be able to pull one off any B246/248/250/252/253 model machine.

I had the same problem on this exact model. The display started glowing kinda pinkish, then 30 days later it was all black. LCD replacement solved my particular issue.

Pull all the trays. I had a 24V short Via runner on the tandem tray (Solenoid inside the Right hand tandem cover) / Paper feed board Cause this problem on this Model. If the fault comes and goes it Could be Similar.

Problem seems to be busted lamp on top of screen,my colegue replaced it with AF 2035 lamp and it worked...it's messy tho since the lamp is bigger and connector needs to be modified but hey...it's working.
Within the LCD STN W-VGA B238 1485 is thin lamp just above the LCD

Not a bad follow up since the original post was a half year ago. Thanks. I take it the lamp is a part of the LCD and can't be ordered separately?

Yea I forgot about post after a while, sorry about that.
You're right it's a part of LCD panel,or at least I culdn't find the lamp in parts katalog.

Hi I look forward to working with those who have this problem, I have had this problem and I've solved it in 2 ways, 1: adapting a light tube board the aficio 1060/1075, to do a little updating but is doing very all right. 2: a light pipe that fits snugly to the board but the light is not the same sale. But it is more expensive to buy the replacement board, greetings and hope you can help someone
