smtp connection test failed, mpc2050 memory clear all?

Hi all.. I have worked on a mpc 2050 in about 3h to get the connection test (smtp) on a mpc 2050 to work.

The coustomer IT tell me that it work on at least 4 other ricoh machine in denmark. This 2050 is in sweden. He have put in the right smtp serverver and add autofication =on and encryption=off

He continue say that they had a simulary problem whith a ricoh machine in Denmark that the technician made a factory reset on. After that reset everything work. Wonder if he mean memory clear all?
I can not see how an reset would solved this problem?

I just read that mpc2050 not support ssl over smtp, maybe there is a newer ricoh they use in Denmark?

They use windows 2008 server R2...
They had add ip from the machine so it should have acces.
I have upgrade firmware to 1.21
    I have tried port 465, 587 and 25
He say that they use port 25 in Denmark.
anyone have an idea to try? Will ask if they use ssl on monday

did he put the IPadress of the smtp server, or did he provided the name? In the second case, check the DNS server settings/connection
Can he ping the smtp server from another worktstation in the same network?

Don't do the factory reset all ( Sp 5801-1) if anything I would clear the NCS settings (SP 5801-11) and reenter all the network settings. Does the connection test pass for the smtp server?? if not by name or number then you have some other network issue and the IT guy is busting your ass to fix his issue!!!

If you can't ping 8.8.8.8 then you probably aren't getting out to the internet. My 1st thought is a gateway error.

A few things I would try is to switch the copier to DHCP and see what it gives you for the gateway & DNS servers. Next I would run Sp5801-11 (NCS) to re-initialize the NIC - this will wipe out all of your static IP settings, so print out the config page first. I prefer to use the config page from UT / Interface Settings / Print button on the LCD screen, since it lists everything in a much friendlier format.

If you cant ping the smtp server from a computer on the same network how are you ever expected to connect to it from the copier ! If you cant ping googles dns server must be incorrect gateway

Could someone translate this to English? Ping is a simple command; send a packet and wait for a while. It doesn't require authentication or authorisation.

I would take a 5 minute time out, and create a NV ram backup to Sd card and save a copy to your laptop for future use. Those It guys may be tempted to do an "all clear" behind your back. Whilst your there print out and keep a non default sheet.

Ok so ping do not care about port and authorisation..

THANK YOU ALL the problem is now solved!
The error was to easy... wrong gatway..
I put the mpc2050 to Dhcp but it still put in the wrong gatway.
When i check the gatway on the working computer behind it was another one.
I put in the computers gatway on the copier and then the connection test worked! Now i could ping 8.8.8.8 from the copier too

Gateway fixed your issue - nice work.

                            Troubleshooting SMTP issues:

Use a laptop to Telnet into the SMTP Server and determine the possible issues.

Laptop should be setup to duplicate the same connection as the copier.
Use the same information you have entered into the copier:
                            IP
                            Mask
                            Gateway
                            DNS
                            Preferably not on their Domain
Use the same network drop the copier is using

Let the IT people know what you found. They may to check the gateway settings on their DHCP server.
