[Misc] WAX on charge roller / drum, DOES IT WORK? - UK

I've noticed several people mention that they wax the charge roller, drum and blade on new PCU's to increase their lifetime.

can anyone truly vouch for this working in the UK? what kind of gain is there? Won't our Topsy Turvy weather cause condensation issues?

There's already a lubricant powder applied to the blade and I'll add a little toner to make sure there's little friction so I can't see how this waxing will extend the life anymore than 20K or so.
With maintenance we're getting 150K on average out of our colour PCU's

    Thank you.

I haven't heard of anyone waxing the drum or the cleaning blade. As for the charge roller, it is a polish not wax that is used. See the last couple of posts to the thread [Misc] Charge Roller. It keeps the charge roller from getting dirty and causing lines on prints and copies.

Thanks Slim, this isn't an official Ricoh thing though.

I know they want you to keep replacing PCU's and giving them money, but is there any actual harm by POLISHING the charge roller?

what kind of gain is there?

This all depends on the machine.
A black and white model such 3352 or anything where the pcu comes apart we do wax the opc drum, the blade, i usually do not wax the black rubber style charge roller, if i have to clean it for any reason i just use soap and water.

On the smaller models with an all in one pcu we dont do any of that at all.

on color machines that have a pcu all in one the only time i wax the charge roller is if it gets dirty before pm time. We use Nu-Finish Car polish. I dont usually take out the charge roller and wax it for no reason I only do it if it gets dirty to keep from replacing it.

On the larger color machines B132/200 models we do wax pcu and charge rollers, i dont usually do the blades because they come prepowdered and work fine that way.

In my opinion this all varies. It works well on the black and white pms, color units it seems to do a decent job but around here in winter when its -20 Fahrenheit and 20% humidity the charge rollers fail waxing sometimes buys a little time.
