    3228c Exit Roller Squeak

I have not seen this before. When I put a little pressure on the exit rollers the squeak stops. I blew some wd40 up in there and it didn't really help at all. I'm not sure why or where the squeak is coming from. Anyone had this issue?

Sounds in general are a B with a ITCH to track most of the time. Keep in mind that this machine also uses rollers on the duplex unit as a possible paper exit, so the noise could come from anywhere!

Just had a look at the parts manual. That exit section is covered in shafts and bushings, so it would be a good idea to lube all of them (and the ones on the duplex side).

    Good luck with the project.

I have found that squeaks like that are usually the idler/pressure rollers, not the driven rollers.

These are the exit rollers inside the cavity btw. The squeak must be coming from behind the air thingy in the back. So I went there again yesterday to take apart the back of the machine so I could get to the drive area of those gears but the squeak was completely gone! Yay. WD40 must have meandered its way to the back. I was quite liberal in my spraying technique on account of I couldn't find the little red wd40 nozzle/hose.

Something to consider, the WD40 may have cleaned rollers that were slipping and causing a squeak. WD40 is my preferred rubber paper feed and transport roller cleaner (soapy water would work better, but it freezes in the winter). Just a guess.
Also, newer cans of WD40 come with the red straw permanently attached, a boon to look forward to when your current can runs out.
