    C2550 Torn Transfer Belt

Does this happen a lot on this series? The reason I ask is because after researching the problem I found NOTHING. (Which I thought was weird)

Not to often but it does happen from time to time, normally it's just wear and tear though.
Most transfer belts tend to degrade and split near the front and rear edges with time.

Generally they do reach and go beyond yield.

Depending on the model the belt may need to be fitted a certain way around (some have a white dot that either goes at the front or the rear).
Also take the time to align and check the front and rear edge of the belt fits flush over the ITB rollers before applying the tension.

I had that had been running for god knows how long with a chunk missing out of the belt. I incompleted for a new belt and by the time I got back, the belt was just in tatters! That's my experience as well, tho, that they do last a long time. I don't replace these belts unless there's a problem with them, no matter what the pm yield.

I found some plastic shards in the fuser... idk if there is more in the machine but I bet this is what caused the tear in the belt. Is it me, or is the plastic on these machines ridiculously frail.

I've replaced a few broken duplex junction gate pawls / exit guides because the plastic goes brittle from the fusing unit heat.

They have modded the exit guides from having plastic clips to metal clips (D0394506).

These are pretty robust belts. I have machines over 500k and never replaced a belt on them. If the customer does a fair number of full color tho, you had better be ready to replace the t-belt cleaning unit however. Those will barely make it to PM cycle (120K).

The whole series is "ridiculously frail"! I think they had a contest at Ricoh to see who could design the cheapest copier with the most features.

Going off topic but I completely agree with Jomoma - think ive only replaced one belt, replaced heaps of duplex junction gates, and a heap of PCU's for squeeking - never have worked out what part of the PCU makes the squeak....But the biggest probem I have with these machines is really weird intermittant and random jamming all over the place.
