    MP 4001 Won't Recognize ADF

I have a strange problem with an MP 4001 that won't recognize that an ADF is present. Every board in the machine has been replaced. Every harness and connector from the BICU&PSU that leads to the ADF have been changed. The entire ADF assembly swapped. All voltages are present. No light on the ADF board (even though it has voltage) and ADF firmware shows no string (like when the ADF is unplugged). I'm banging my head against the wall on this one. Anyone else seen this problem? If so, what was the fix?

You might check for a bad motor or solenoid in the document feeder that took out the new board. Or something that puts an excessive load on the motors that would cause them to draw too much current. SP5-990-4 could provide a clue.
If the machine is in a rough environment, take a look at the bracket the ADF connector is mounted on and make sure it isn't bent to the point that a good connection isn't made.

The entire doc feed has been swapped with a good one. When it did not work with the machine, I took it back off and placed it on a 3rd machine in the office and it worked fine.

I'm not getting and error codes.

The strange thing is that it doesn't see/recognize that it has an ADF. The platen sensor (which is machine side) input checks work fine. Input checks/output checks don't work on the ADF. I suspect it's due to the fact it doesn't see it there, which would also explain why the ADF firmware on the SMC Report shows "No String". I checked voltages on the ADF main board and it has all 5v and 24v signals present.

Based on everything you've already tried, the only thing left to replace (according to Goose Guide) is Scanner I/O board

Im facing this problem before and i found out the problem is because of the Sensor in ADF connector did not connect well or Sensor spoil.

You need to check the sensor with the connector. Some times when you close the cover, the connector will lose connect with sensor.

            Good Luck.

              It's been replaced. Twice.

I know which sensor you are talking about. But with the entire ADF assembly being replaced it should not do it on both.

Since you have tried another complete ADF unit and have the same problem, the problem has to be with the copier itself. Since you say that you have replace every harness and connector, the problem is either the BICU or PSU. Swap boards with another machine and see if the problem goes away. If it does, check for cold solder joints on a connector.

Seeing that you have tested the df on another machine (and it works) it rules out the peripherals.

Have you swopped the df recepticle? Or have you checked the recepticle for foreign material in the socket?

Ok ... let settle one by one, Did you change the entire ADF Unit?

If still problem when changing the entire ADF Unit. Which mean your IO Board got problem.

If its not a pinched wire it would seem to be io board.

Sorry if this sounds patronizing, but are you sure it is the correct document feeder that is fitted? (DF3010)

Bit of a long shot really, but if you've changed most of the boards and it worked with a different doc feeder, then I personally can't think of anything else.
