If you have the Smart Operations Panel, JAVA or actually the iSDK needed to work with the android OS, is not yet available the last I heard. If you have a standard operations panel, JAVA is imbedded on the controller board. You may have to check if it is enabled with SP 5730-002. You can also enter User Tools. If extended features option is there press it and see if JAVA is started, should show starting. JAVA does not have a function button. You have to install JAVA apps and add them as icons on the Home screen.

There are two ways to install Java on 03 devices.

Either use Remote install manager to load on EDC file or
If you have the UPD file get a sd card wipe off all other data. Then unpack the upd file and then browse down untill you see the upd file and the two text files. Double click the upd file then you should get a folder with a name like ver11.19.03 open this folder you should see a folder called sdk. Copy this folder on to the SD card and put the sd card in the lower service slot and power up the 03 device.

In the lower left hand part of the screen you should see how it is getting on.

If the device has access to the internet, it might be easier just to use the built in firmware update tool in Service.

Also, why bother? Updating Java rarely fixes anything.

just follow what paulg said I have updated a few copiers with equitrac and safe com installed when you do this change the copier priority from the app back to copier this speeds up the install.
ruben can you shed some light on the comment about the copier being on the internet to do the firmware thanks in advance.

Go in Service Mode and press the Firmware Update button. You can set a time and date to pre-download the firmware package, then once it has downloaded return to the same menu to initialise firmware update. If the button doesn't exist you may have manually update first.

Updating java is crucial for 3rd party software ie. Global Scan NX. To do firmware update from service mode the machine has to have a @remote number.

WRONG !! the first 3 03's I put the SOP on all threw random sc 991's. After I called Ricoh, I found out the java had to be 11.14 or higher and the machines came out of the box with 11.11............ This was early released units though................................

The firmware download service looks useful as long as the Machine is on @remote but as far as I am aware it will only update the package firmware which is most of the major Firmware files but not the Java?

If you use java I have learnt it is best to keep fairly up to date or on the new 03 MFP's switch it off via Sp mode 5 730 01 set to zero if not needed.
