Ricoh Aficio 2238C Ctrl Panel and SC386

The control panel shows the green light for power, but never shows anything on the panel. The tech reseated all the connectors, but got the same results after powering on the machine. The power button on the control panel has no effect when it's pushed. Just the solid green light indicator for power.

This machine was originally called in for an SC386 error. We replaced the black dev unit a month ago for the SC386. The error went away but came back over the weekend. The tech pulled the dev unit out of the machine and noticed it was squeaky clean, same as it was when it was put in the machine. Service mode shows the pump for the black toner is activating. However, no black toner ever reaches the dev unit. Do the toner pumps go bad in these machines often? The machine has 900,000 total copies on it. All drums are new as well.

    Thx.

I'm confused by the several issues you're describing.
It would seem that the first thing that needs resolving is "no display".
Then SC386, which is likely a Bias board issue.
And "do toner pumps go bad"? All the time (especially if you use generic crap). But I've heard no mention of a constant "add toner" condition, so that wouldn't seem to be the issue here

Sorry about that confusion. The original issue was the SC386 error. You can turn the power off and back on and the error may go away but will come back again after less than 20 prints. So we replace the dev unit which allowed the customer to print about 1 ream of paper before the sc386 came back. So the tech went out to debug the sc386 and noticed the "clean" dev unit with no toner being dumped into it AND the control panel being non respnosive.

He could not run anything in service mode because the control panel just sits there with the green power light on, but not responding to any buttons nor displaying anything in the LCD area.

Thx in advance for any info. Oh, and P, we bought the service manual from you already.

I'd check the developer drive, as it sounds a little like the developer roller isn't turning properly. Also, check to see if the developer unit is installed correctly, at least on some older machines that used this chassis that was a problem.
Do the fans run when you turn the machine on now? Let us know, please. It is kind of important for a solution to the blank display problem.

Thx for the replies! The tech hears NO fans when the machine is powered on.

We had a list of items for him to check in service mode for the machine, but he can't get to service mode now that the control panel is stuck. So once we can get the machine to give a display, we'll look into that developer roller. We did not have that item on the list to check. Thanks!!!

Check the voltage of the outlet the machine is plugged into to make sure it is suitable for the machine, no point in putting new parts in a machine to only have them get needlessly wrecked by something you have no control over.
Then check the output voltages from the power supply. I'm pretty sure you will find no 24VDC output. And only one active 5VDC output. Troubleshoot from that point.
(Sounds like there might be a problem with one of the 5VDC lines, but that's just a wild guess.)

Ok, got the control panel replaced on this machine, but the black toner is not getting added. All the motors run when the tech turns them on in service mode. The customer said they had the toner holder replaced. Could there be something to check with the toner holder to see why the toner isn't getting from the holder thru the tubes to the dev unit?

              Thanks.

Try new black toner pumps and dv clutches. It is a tedious job to replace the pump. It is better to get another guy out with you to replace it.

Check for a clogged toner tube. Pull the development unit out look to see if there is a buildup of toner in the entry hopper on top of the back of the unit. I have had gears in the development unit cause the mixing augers to not turn.
