Ricoh MP 4500 / Svin 8045e No power after replacing main Power Supply Board

On a previous post I had said the main power supply board had a capacitor blow out in a customer's home office - even though it was protected with an ESP surge protector - and it was not a storm. Well, I replaced the main board and now the on button light up but the machine will not power up, so it must be something else. I could not see a problem with any other board but it must be something. Could the controller have gone out (the metal box from the right back area that you can remove that has the hard drive in it). I am hoping someone has been through this...thanks.

This machine sounds more and more like an insurance claim. Check the controller board, BICU, Hard drive, everything. If a capacitor blew on that board, it may have discharged what it had stored up through out the rest of the boards.

The controller is the "heart" of Ricoh mfp's, and if there is any fault/damage to the controller, the machine won't boot as it boots from the controller.

I would try another controller, as it should at least hang on "please wait" if it was a hdd fault.

I do agree with rthonpm that it sounds more like an insurance claim, than a repair - as the amount of time spent on such a box is not justified, taking into account the cost of electronic boards these days!

      Good luck!

I've had the same with an MP C2500. Only the power light was on. I disconnected the Polygon Mirror Motor connector and the panel lights up, displaying SC220. Replacing the Polygon Mirror Motor solved it.

Patterson did you fit the older PSU or the correct one for this machine?
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

          Hit it.

Thank you all for your advice. Mr. Munkeh, I did replace the PSU with the same number AZ230217, but thank you for the suggestion. I have a known working parts machine I can salvage off of luckily. I have not tried the Controller yet but will let you know what I find out. The customer is not wanting to continue shelling out bucks until I find the fix. As far as the insurance claim, there is some issue with the customer being able to determine if the power company is at fault with a bad transformer. They also had a dishwasher and microwave blow out with the 4500 and 6 months ago two TV's. Didn't tell me about the two TV's. And, unfortunately ESP is not going to cover the damage because you have to be the original purchaser of the ESP and I am not. That's a head-up for anyone who doesn't have proof of original ownership. They will replace the ESP, but that's it!

If the customer is in Rockville as well: it's all PepCo's fault! The mirror motor might be another good place to look, though it's not as likely a candidate with this being a black and white machine.
