Does anyone know if a MPC4500 transfer cln unit will work in a MPC5000?

Actually, you can make them fit, and they work fine....

You need to cut a bit of the cleaner unit off (just visually check the back of the cleaner unit and you will see which bit I mean) and swap the gears from one to the other over.

Or, if you can be arsed, swap the blade and the brush over, assuming that's what the problem is.

The gears are different on the cl unit b223 6039 has wide tooth gears and d089 6022 has fine tooth gears if my memory serves me correct
