    AF3035 "processing" all the time

I have an Aficio 3035 in the field that keeps running for at least a minute after every job, and displays "PROCESSING..." in the upper left corner of the display. It also seems to be running very slowly during normal copying. It's the only one I have out there, as we were sold and no longer have Ricoh. It's pretty much my machine now, as nobody else wants to work on the Ricoh-s anymore, especially the newer models.

The machine acts like it is doing process control or cleaning, but TD, ID, etc. are all close enough to spec, and the cleaning program is set to 5 pages, 1 revolution as per default. I've never seen this on any of the 20x5(e) models, so I'm pretty stumped.

Unplug the HD and see if the problem goes away. The machine will run without a HD but with reduced functionality.

Unlike what I did not do before I left my last company, get your hands on ALL OF THE FIRMWARE for all Ricoh's that you can, in case you no longer have access to the technician's site.

It sounds like it may be a firmware issue. Sometimes, when problems like this start, it may actually be some other firmware (like the controller) rather than the system. With the GW architecture they adopted years ago, everything is interlaced and 'feeds' off of each other.

Do all of the latest firmware for all components; generally updating one component at a time does not always work well.

          Firmware and other issues...

Sadly, I don't have access for firmware anymore either... But according to the instructors in the classes at Ricoh, "You technician certification belongs to you, not your employer." But the second that employer stops carrying the product, even by Ricoh's actions, not ours, they cut the technician off like so much dead meat. Someone else offered that this machine may be close to doing the old SC990 trick for drum and developer, so I have them ordered and will be doing them some time this coming week. I'll keep everyone posted. b003ace

Changed the drum and developer. Still the same problem with the "Processing...", although the drum isn't turning during the delay any longer.

One of my co-workers thinks it could be the memory stick or the HDD, so I scavenged them from an Af2035 and will try them next...
