FT-4227 - Resett counter after emptying used toner

    Hello everyone,

I'm glad to have found this forum after a long session of Googling for help.

I've just emptied a used toner tank on a Ricoh FT4227 and am having trouble resetting the counter in order to get it to copy again.

On the toner tank it says:
"After disposing of the toner in the used toner tank, clear the memory counter (SP mode #58) using SP mode #83"
I've got a kind of service manual that says that I need to press "1" and "3" and turn it on to enter SP mode. I've sucessfully got into SP mode and have confirmed that I can get it to perform some other tasks mentioned in this manual but I can't get it to reset the counter even though I've tried inputting "58" and "83" in different ways.

    Any help would be appreciated,

    Staffan

Thank you for your swift reply.

Yes, it seems to be the way to do it.

However I now noticed that I've been a bit sloppy and didn't realize that the symbol that is lit up is the one for "more toner needed", how silly of me.

Also I've seen to have messed up the settings a bit whilst adventuring in the "SP mode", copies were way to dark, and after I tweaked that in the "SP mode a bit" it now it displays a "EdE" error message. I probably didn't do it quite right. This is giving me a bigger headache than programming the clock on an oven.

I will have to try to go through different procedures in the service manual probably. Later. Will search this forum too a bit and google.

This is a good example of why we don't recommend giving SP codes to customers.

I recall going to work for a company where quite a few customers were 'adventurous' with sp modes (given out by previous technicians.) Needless to say, I was not too excited about it. The techs kept saying, "It would keep us from having to go out there to clear the codes."

Then why did I end up going to their customers so often? Ironically, it actually made us go out just as much, if not more. Just a little too adventurous I guess.

Well, the copier is working ok now. That error message went away by itself.

I'm always delighted to find a good forum full of people who can help. I had a hunch there would be a good forum with copier experts somewhere. Thanks for the help.

Staffan, the error code will probably not return. The waste toner counter will eventually return as you accrue copies, but not for quite a while. I would not recommend not tweaking with those settings unless you're comfortable with them. If getting that error code frustrated you, wait until you accidentally tweaked a 'real' setting.

You may have attempted to adjust 56 for exposure (if I remember correctly.)

                Good luck, but be careful.
