The duplex of my ricoh aficio 1224c is not being detected by the system even after firmly connecting it's cable. What may be the possible causes for this error and how can it be corrected. Help please.

You could have a faulty duplex controller.
I assume the duplex was working fine prior to this occuring.
1. Check the duplex connector on the machine for bent pins.
2. Check the wire harness for visable damage and reseat the connectors on the duplex controller.
3. Use a multimeter and check pins 1 and 3 / 9 and 11 on the machines connector for +5v output.- Knowledge not shared, is eventually knowledge that becomes lost... like tears in the rain.

When you say, "not detected". Is it not showing an an option of the screen, or does it not show on the printer config sheet or as an option in user tools.
Did you reboot the machine after you plugged the duplex in.?sigpic

Not sure if this is the case but if the HDD went down, would you loose functionality, including duplex.Comment

You would for sure loose functionality and it would not show on the LCD but it would show up in the printer config page.sigpic

I forgot all about a faulty HDD causing limited functionality, yes that is more likely.- Knowledge not shared, is eventually knowledge that becomes lost... like tears in the rain.

Also the "hotkeys" for the various duplex options do not appear automatically, you'd need to add them in user tools, do you not get the duplex/combine key at the bottom?
A bad HDD is probably a good candidate, check the SMC for HDD SC codesComment
