MPC2500 Fax doesnt always print out

Hello everyone. Im working on a MPC2500 that has been installed for several years and not been a problem. Twice in the last 4 months the cust is telling me that for no reason faxs' started printing out, they were several days old. I don't see anything wrong with set up and it works fine most of the time. Any reason it would store faxs' for a couple of days randomly? It copies and prints fine during the time that the faxs' should be printing. I have not been able to catch it in the act so Im not sure what if anything is being displayed. Any ideas of what is going on? Thank you in advance for any ideas you have.

When this happens, does the customer notice that the receive file light is on??????????? That might indicate that the designated fax tray has a problem like out of paper ect.............

I asked her about that or maybe a 14" fax came in but no 14 paper in the tray. She said no, the same tray is used for printing and copying. She couldn't remember if the receive fax light was on.

Are they using User Codes on the machine? If so do the faxes print when a particular user logs on? If the answer to both is YES, Memory Lock Reception is probably on for "Special Senders to Treat Differently". If there are files in memory lock, the Confidential File indicator will be blinking. See rfg022852 Operator Instruction Manual 1. You can download it from either rfg-esource or tsrc.

Good question, I'm not sure if they use user codes. I will stop by and take a look in the next couple of days and check. Thanks

In your FAX mode does your memory show 100%? I suspect it is less than 100%. I have seen situations where the "Reception File Setting" has been changed from "Print" to "Store" and as memory is depleted it prints stored faxes. I have one client with a C2051 that actually prints their incoming faxes AND also store them.

Thanks for all the ideas. They are not using user codes. It hasn't happened since I was there so all I can do is keep an eye on it and see what happens. I think I need more details about it so I hope I can catch it in the act. Thanks again

After checking on this account several times they changed their story a little. It apparently happens when printing from the top tray also. I replaced the paper tray detect switch and am waiting to see if that solved it, Im thinking that was it. Thanks for everyone's help.

By tray detect switch are you referring to the paper out switch or the paper size switch. I have had some problems with the paper size switch on some models. A portion of it is used to detect if the paper tray in or not. A little vibration and the drawer goes from showing paper loaded to no paper and the back. I confirmed it with the Input checks, wiggle the drawer and that switch would alternate between 0 and 1. Replaced the switch and problem was gone. Machines were in high dust environments. Job site trailer offices in the oil fields.

yes, the paper size switch. for some reason the top tray uses a push type switch mounted behind the tray in the frame. I never witnessed the issue the cust was having but after several visits I got the feeling it was not just a fax problem but a top tray problem. I replaced the switch and so far no more complaints. Im keeping my fingers crossed.
