    K+E 8036, Ricoh FW-870

This machine has a print quality defect. The 1st occurrence is 3.25" (8cm) from the leading edge, and the 2nd occurrence is 10.5" (26.5cm) from the leading edge. Same location on each print. Where the defect occurs, it looks like the image is compressed as if the registration clutch is slipping. Tried to clean the clutch with no difference. Observing the clutch while running a print shows no visible signs of it stopping or slowing while it is engaged. If anyone has experience with this old machine and recognizes these symptoms, it would help a bunch.

If the clutch is stalling you would not be able to see it unless it is stopped for considerable time. Sounds more like you have a drum stalling issue. Does it give you the same marks when you run a cut sheet?

      Cut Sheet Test

I will return on site tomorrow and check that. I just ran test copies from the 36" roll.

Jitter could be from one of three areas:
        1. Original feed
        2. Drum drive
        3. Paper feed and transport

I would check the circumference of the drum. If it is about 7.25" (18.5 cm), I would check for a bad bearing in the drum drive train.

With as old as this machine is, and the fact that it is an analog model wide format copier, it might be a good idea to replace it with a digital wide format multifunction.

Check the drum drive pulley the st screws will loosen causing this type of problem also.
