[Misc] Ricoh 240w Windows 7 Issue

we just upgraded all our computers to run windows 7. we have a Ricoh 204w plotter that we have connected to an older computer running win XP. We are looking to upgrade that computer as well, but we cant find any drivers that will work with Windows 7. We tried to switch the PCI card into one of the new Computers, & it will not recognize the card. I've called Ricoh, & they tell me that there's a driver on their website that will work, but it don't. Is there a new card that will work with Windows 7, or does anyone know of anything else that we could try?

    I googled and found this.

Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

thanks nmfaxmann for the reply. we have tried all these, but our main problem is when we insert the card into the new computer, it doesn't recognize the card at all. I forgot to mention that the old system is 32 bit, & the new system is 64 bit. Could this cause Windows not to find the card as well?

ok, so here's the scoop. You need to upgrade the plotbase software so that it will work with windows 7. There are also specific specs for the PC also. I read on of the other threads and there are no Ratio dealers. Ratio will sell to anyone. My suggestion is to call an Authrorized Ricoh Dealer in your area, and make sure they have 240W & Ratio expertise. It will be needed. If you have any additional questions please feel free to post here or email me arthurkpost@gmail.com

For what it is worth, if 240 prints all the jobs you send to it through the computer that is still running Windows XP correctly, you might want to consider making that computer the 240's print server. You should make sure that the computer can't access the internet and only people you trust have access to it, though.

Don't do it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and if you do there is a newer version of plotbase/scanbase, but at the time Ricoh didn't support it and you had to buy it from Ratio in Germany... That was a couple years ago...

The driver you are looking for is for the card, not a print driver. Even if you had it, the software itself won't run on Windows 7.

I just checked the Ricoh dealer site, and there is no mention of newer Plotbase / Scanbase software.

The latest version supported is 3.7.1, and even if you're at 3.7.1, it will not run on Windows 7.

That means you need to get the upgrade directly from Ratio, at least AFAIK. Version 3.7.4 will support Windows 7, at least according to the Ratio site:

RATIO US, LLC. - PLOTBASE Upgrades

Please read thoroughly, as the site mentions 64 bit support.

Since you have made no mention of your current version, (you may be below 3.x), it's hard to say just what sort of hoops you'll need to jump through to get there.

Definitely not an easy or straightforward process.
