    MP 6001 hard drive overwrite

I'm not a Ricoh tech, but I have replaced several, and have a question regarding the hard drive. Is there any proprietary software on the hard drive of an MP 6001? I'd like to overwrite the drive and have the machine format it and put it back in operating condition. I also want to delete the remainder of client data in memory, network settings, address book, etc. What's the best way to do that?
    Thanks for your help.

You should be OK just overwriting the hard drive, there is nothing the machine needs to operate properly on it.

Re: MP 6001 hard drive overwrite

If the machine has Data Overwrite Security Unit, DOSS, already installed, then the only customer data on the HDD will be the address book and the document server. Both can be deleted through the User Tools. If DOSS is not installed, the HDD can be taken out formatted on a computer. Format as FAT. Do not use quick format as that only erases the directory structure. If you have Norton Wipe disk or a similar software, that would be better. When you put it back in the 6001 and turn on power, the 6001 will detect that the required structure is missing and will rebuild it. To determine if DOSS is installed, look at the bottom right corner of the screen. If there is a small green bear keg shaped icon, that is the symbol for the DOSS. It will be red while a copy or print job is running. Once the job is finished, the data on the HDD will be securely erased. When a job is removed from the Document Server, the icon will turn red while it erases the HDD area that had been used.
