MP 3053 Printing issue with Quickbooks

    Hello all,

I have a very particular and troublesome problem.

I have a new install with an MP 3053 and got everything working all perfectly, except one trying to print single checks from quickbooks. The checks come in 8.5"x11" sheets with 3 checks on a sheet. Printing 3 checks works fine, 2 checks fine, but a single check and the print is 5.5" out of alignment in the feed direction. I called Ricoh TSSC and they had no clue, called Intuit and they told me there were no settings to adjust.
I measured out and did a custom size through the print driver and on the printer for 8.5"x4". I even tried using a default size setting using #10 envelope (4.125"x9.5") and the text was still out of alignment by 5+".
I can only adjust the alignment up to 0.5" through Quickbooks, so that's useless.
I went to word and publisher and can print on custom size paper 8.5"x4" with no alignment issue, so I know it's particular to Quickbooks. However, I can swap printers (customer has old Lexmark T620) and print single checks just perfectly with the same settings so it's not just Quickbooks but something to do with the 3053, either printer or driver.

All firmware is up-to-date, using the PCL6 driver for the MP3053 running on Windows 7 (32bit), tried out of both the bypass tray and tray 1 with similar issues. I am at an almost complete loss of what to do.

Has anybody had a similar issue?
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Try changing from quickbooks paper print mode from portrait to landscape and tell us if cheques better or worse ? Try printing a single addressed envelope from the bypass tray. It's better/safer to print envelopes SEF.

This sounds like it could be a Quickbooks problem. The driver will only send to the printer what the software tell it to.

This is what I was saying, but customer doesn't believe it because can print single checks on all of her old printers just fine.

Can only run the single checks in landscape mode. They're not wide enough to run portrait. Full sheets and 2/3 sheets run fine portrait.

Never tried a full sheet in landscape mode, but a 2/3 sheet in landscape mode does slightly mis-align the print, but within specs to just go through the form align function to fix.

Have you tried a different driver ? Ive had similar issues from various applications but changing drivers has solved the problem. Either using PCL5 or Post Script if the device has the option insalled

              X2.

Too bad the mini drivers are dead.. they probably would work the best.

If you have no luck with Ricoh drivers, try using an HP driver, perhaps the LaserJet 5si. The commands should be nearly identical.

Keep in mind that a lot of apps were designed with only HP in mind, and could really care less about any other brand.

I had a similar problem at a real estate title agency with their funky software a few years back printing to a Canon imageRUNNER. The HP driver worked fine, where all the Canon drivers pretty much bombed.

I always had good results with RPCS, too, but the mini drivers (pcl5 or 6) got me out of a ton of jams.

They were always my go-to with Word Perfect.

Alright, awesome, I'll definitely try different drivers. It was my thought as well but I didn't get a chance to change drivers while I was there the other day. And since then I've been out of the office sick, but ASAP I'll try a new driver and give it a whirl.

They may not develop it, but I believe the new models still support RPCS. I have yet to check a config page to confirm tho.

If you try landscape test and it is no different check the MFD is set for driver/command printing an not tray machine settings.

Issue was fixed by using PCL5 driver, leaving all settings at default just changing paper size to 8.5"x8.5" to prevent the machine from throwing a jam error.
