B/W 113k, C 91k, machine has a knocking sound when warming up or making copies/prints. Through output checks have isolated the noise to fuser/exit assy. Cheated the door, and can feel the knock in both the fuser and the exit unit above the fuser. Pulled both units and rotated components by hand, can not feel/hear the knock. Found service bulletins on the issue, and have adjusted SP settings, updated the firmware, and replaced the fusing belt (which did have a wrinkle in it). Still making the noise, I am ordering the P/R gear, which may have some slop in it when riding on the P/R shaft. Other than that, I'm stumped. Machine is otherwise operational and copies look fine. Any one else seen/fixed this? Thanks!

Re: MP C4502 Fuser/Exit Noise
When you replaced the fusing sleeve, did you replace with the old part number, D1444041 or the new number D1444045? The new was given in the same bulletin as the firmware update information. The bulletin also gave a part for an updated fusing unit, if the new style pressure roller gear, AB014340, doesn't correct the problem. The machine I had trouble with, the firmware update corrected. -
Re: MP C4502 Fuser/Exit Noise
For what it is worth, if the fuser looks in good shape otherwise I have found that most fuser noises can be cured by putting some high temperature grease on the ends of the rollers that fit in the inner races of bearings.
Here's why I think that works:
Due to the pressure and temperature in the fuser, the rollers can sometimes rotate faster than the inner race of the bearings. That movement of metal over metal can cause all manner of unusual noises, but a layer of high temp grease can reduce or eliminate that.
I think a bulletin about that on the older 35/45 CPM machines was where I learned this.Comment

Re: MP C4502 Fuser/Exit Noise
Might have been the one of the old 22/27 machines. Without the grease, they could sound like an old coffee percolator. In addition to the grease on the shafts, I used to pack silicon compound into the bearings.Comment

Re: MP C4502 Fuser/Exit Noise
The gear and some lube fixed it. Before swapping out the gear, I tried everywhich way to get the old gear to make some kind of noise on the shaft, but no luck. I wasn't too hopeful then that the new gear would fix it, but it did. Thanks for your input!Comment

Re: MP C4502 Fuser/Exit Noise
Perhaps a faulty ball bearing or lack of grease between bearing and shaft within the fuser. Sleeve assy works different so it's probably not the cause but you might still find bearings at the pressure roller.
Edit: Ah just saw you already got back with a solution, thxLast edited by Gift; 10-22-2014, 01:36 PM.Comment
