    [Misc] Open to top booklets

Just something I've quickly looked into really, all I want is a 4 page document so when you fold it in half you can stand it on your desk (like an xmas card for example) and for the front and back to be the correct way up.
No matter what I try everything is correct except the back page is upside down.

I've got numerous customers out there that set the last page to be upside down within the program they are printing from to get round this.

I went to a business the other day, not one of ours, but they kicked up a fuss that since changing from windows xp to windows 7 the last page is now upside down using the same settings. So according to them it did work using the open to top booklet setting on xp.

It has just peeked my interest really and wondered if someone had an answer.

I have passed the info onto Ricoh Technical Support, they got back to me a few days later after asking around to say they haven't heard of this issue but will continue to look into it.
So what I've tried, all drivers pcl5, pcl6, rpcs, pcl universal, tried every setting in them all, open to top booklet is what gets closest.
Theres loads of little things within the driver, like rotate 180, reverse order print, posters, layout, page order, tried them all.
Tried A4/A3, portrait landscape. Tried on mpc3000, mpc3001, mpc3002, tried older drivers and newer drivers. Tried it through the browser and word and note pad incase it was an application issue.

I haven't tried it on a machine with a finisher, but I don't want it stapled, just want it to come out as a single sheet double sided with 4 images on so I can fold it in half and stand it up.

    Cheers

    Re: Open to top booklets

..."Short Edge Bound"...or "Long Edge Bound"?

    ...Portrait or Landscape orientation?

...Does it open like an calendar or like a book?

I have seen programs....most prominently "Wordperfect" where the Program Print Settings completely override the print driver print settings, most notably color default set in the program COMPLETELY OVERRIDES the Black & White default in the print driver!!!

So that being said, there are three places to "check" this type of issue.

    1. In the Publishing/Layout program itself.

    2. In the print driver--options before printing and also printing defaults in the control panel.

    3. In the printer/mfp settings itself--go to the WIM (Web Image Monitor) and check to see what the settings are for binding and duplexing--bind on long edge, flip on long edge...if calendar style.

I do a yearbook for the wifey's classroom and always compile the yearbook document into PDF format to see how it does before actual printing.

    Good Luck!

      Hey, Thanks for the reply!

Its basically a booklet you can fold in half and sit on the desk, so you can spin it around and whatever side you are looking at is the correct way up.
Yes I've tried it both landscape and portrait.

I changed the duplex settings in the WIM and gave that a go as you say, unfortunately no difference. Least it was something to try.

Like I said before, it isn't the application as I've tried it in numerous different ones, tried it on different PCs and different drivers and different Ricoh MFDs. But I know what you mean by the options before you go into the driver settings, such as auto-scale etc.

Maybe its just not possible to do. Just the customer wants it sorted as it used to work with XP before they upgraded to win 7 and they have a Canon machine that has no problems doing it on either windows version.
Although the customer is not ours I wanted to see if I could find an answer. Will advise them to flip page 4 in the application for now.

      Thanks

Ok, if it is made from a single page of paper and folded to stand up, that is a design issue.

The opposite side facing you will have to be rotated upside down in the design view so when the fold is at the apex, the opposite side will be upright.

        Basically a tent fold.

Yeah that's it. Currently our customers do that, rotate the last page and it comes out perfect.

However this customer is adamant that it was fine for a year and a half, as soon as their IT installed windows 7 the back page was now upside down.
I can't prove this though having only attended after all their old PCs are gone and having no windows xp machines in our office to try it on.

          Thankyou

I believe this is as Qbert69 says, a design issue. If you are using Publisher, it has it's own templates that will correct the orientation but if you are making your own template then you may have to redesign said template each time that software has an update or change driver types (eg rpcs settings to pcl6 settings). Not a driver issue. Sorry.

If you have a design and it works for your particular output, use it...that's why it's called a TEMPLATE!...a starting point if you will. Tweak it, change it to optimize it, but for goodness sake, don't do a "save"...do a "save as" and don't muck up your ORIGINAL TEMPLATE!

On most Ricoh equipment that I have worked on that have a booklet finisher, if you select center staple and the document is only one sheet it will fold the copies but not staple as there is nothing to staple together.
