    MP C6502 Low toner yield

We are noticing that our customers are not getting the toner yield on 2 new MP C6502 that is specified. A machine that I was just on yesterday on its first toner bottles got only 17198 for yellow, 16371 for magenta and 17530 for cyan. The Product Support Guide specifies the expected yield for color at 29K. We have just update the firmware to the version that is supposed to reduce the amount of waste toner this week. Has anyone else notice the low toner yield? Also, since this is on the first toner change for the machine, does any one know the percentage of the first bottle that is used to prime the toner system?

The yield is based on 5% coverage, have you checked the SMC to see what the coverage % counter is for each colour?

From what I can decipher from the SMC data log entries for coverage, the average color coverage is about 3.4%. Most copies in SP 8851 fall in either the 0-2%, 3-4% and 5-7% with 3-4% being the highest count and 0-2% the next highest. Counts drop off drastically above 7%.

That seems like very low coverage, are you sure that's the correct SP.

The description I have here for SP8851.
These SPs display the number of scanned sheets on which the coverage of each color is
        from 0% to 10%.
I was looking more at SP8601 and SP8921.

Could be wrong, it's not something I check that often to be honest.

you should also be seeing the waste toner bottle fill up fairly quickly also. This is because of the pages per job. A lot of small page jobs cause alot of toner waste, even with the newer frimwar. I'm seeing this on the c6502 machines as well as the Pro series machines that are placed in the wrong environment....................

I place a spare WTB with every one installed...............

Ricoh has released a firmware update to somewhat cut increase the waste toner bottle yield. See attached: rfg063399.pdf

There is an additional update that is supposed to allow you to clear the waste toner counter. Engine firmware V1.35:08.

Lots of RTBs for this model like the previous range.

I had a quick look this morning at a MFDs SMC.

Not 100% sure but if you take SP8921-001 to 004 and divide it by SP8921-011 to 014 that should give you the average coverage percentage for each colour.

That's how I got the 3.4% from my second post. I did this for all three colors and then averaged them.
