    Paper Multifeeds

Decided to post this as an FYI. Twice in the last month have had 2 MFP'S with brand new Torque Limiters, Pickup, Separation and Feed Rollers multifeeding 11 X 17 stock. One machine was a C6501 and the one today was a C2500 so nothing in common OTHER THAN THE PAPER: TOPPRINT Multiuse Paper (20 IB/ 92 Brightness, made in Indonesia). Today I copied down the batch number (F33140?06P11M 0?66). Paper looks fine and does not appear to be fanned poorly - the "?" was part of the batch code.

Before working on copiers I worked for 28 years in the print industry as a Bookbinder/Guillotine operator trimming reams of paper.
Trimming paper on a dull blade "sticks" the paper edges together and I know you stated that the paper seems to be fanned properly but sometimes you need to "break the back" of the ream whilst flexing the paper to see if it is stuck.
The sheets can be separated doing this but if you have one bad ream you can bet you have a bad batch.
Also... static electricity can stick the paper together.
I've seen cheap packaging on these cheap brands of paper cause this.
Time to take a ream of your own paper to the machines for the customers to test

      Re: Paper Multifeeds

I've had multifeeds occur when the black gate has had one or both bumpers broken off (the gate that directs the paper upwards). The first sheet will get caught and then the second sheet gets fed into the first.

Doesn't sound like this will be the case as it's on 2 different machines.

picking up on Oze's comment, some reams of paper can have an arrow showing the direction in which the paper should be facing. This could be about the way the papers cut and edges of the paper sticking together.

MPC2500 given the age of the machine, there might be a problem with the mag-feed clutchs.
You may have to replace the clutchs and clean out the idler shafts of all the drive gears that mesh with the mag-clutchs. If you have a build up of dirt in the clutch and gears, two paper trays can feed paper at the same time.
